Does anyone else get frustrated at how long it takes for information to show up on the DVC Member website? We all knew about the most recent SSR promo. days ago...yet we just get an email about it and even then, it's still not listed in the "Special Offers" section of the website. Also, how long will it take for the AKV news to show up? I feel the same time the info. was released to the news media, a corresponding blurb should have shown up on the member website. Is it really that difficult to update the website on a more frequent basis? Thank goodness for DISboards -- or we'd never know anything!

I think they are using email more than the member site.

they generally announce a new resort through the regular mail. so expect something in the next fews days - maybe not that early. Slow mail. I don't think they announce a new resort to us until they figure out the points schedule and I bet they are still working on that.

I find it hard to believe that they'd make the announcement before having the points and costs already planned. :confused3
Doesn't that seem a very "Mickey Mouse" way of doing things? :lmao: :rotfl2:

Why is it that TIKIMAN, has a press release and a picture posted on the resort board, but the release is not on the DVC web site, nor did members get an email (no offense to TIKIMAN, he does a great job with his Poly info web site -- but to my knowledge, he is not a DVC member)

I work for a membership organization, and when we have a major announcement, the members get an email when we are going to have some press coverage. It may be that they get the email about the same time as the press coverage goes out, but they get an email pretty close to the time the coverage is out.

Why is it that this was in the news yesterday, but no DVC members have been notified, and MS won't even talk about it?

tikiman information came from the disney cast member site.

I think the news got out before Disney was ready for it - so they announced it.

I didnt even get the email with the SSR offer-there was apparantly a glitch in the website and I had to re-sign up to get my emails. Can someone post the info here that was included in the offer email?
Thanks!

for some reason I can't - send me your email address and I will forward it to you.

or look for Doc information.

$15 credit per point at SSR with a minimum purchase of 115 points. Any new member referrals you make will also receive the incentive with a minimum 150 point purchase as long as your name is provided as the referring member. :)

I've been told by various groups within Disney that the website is updated only by IT people in California. No one in Florida has any control over it. It seems to me that a company with the money that Disney has should be able to provide better online services. A while back they layed off a lot of WDW IT people to contract out and said that all IT web related stuff would be done in CA. Unfortunately, in my experience you get what you pay for & contracting out doesn't breed loyalty.

I'm surprised this AKV came out before the members cruise. I thought the cruisers would be the first to know.

rwc: I think many people felt the same way (myself included). Deep down I still feel like something either came out earlier than it should have, or perhaps something instigated it (ie: Is Bonnet Creek selling faster than SSR, or was US getting ready to announce a big project?). Whatever the reason, it still bugs me that the one place we should be able to go to for up-to-date info. is always weeks behind, and that they don't seem to care enough to do something about it. :sad2:

Tikiman got his info from a Disney cast member. They were sent a memo yesterday with the announcement. No problem with him sharing it once it was given to him.

I agree that the announcement or lack of one was very poorly handled.

DVC tries to act like the members are important to them and then one of the biggest announcements they have made in years, is on the local Orlando news and leaked on Net forums by some that have CM friends etc.

Once they give the info to the CMs, you know it is going to be given to someone who will post it on some net forum. The least they could do is after sending the announcement to the CMs is to then send emails to the members.

I think it was an shoty, unprofessional way to handle it. :sad2:

Not to repeat myself, but I agree 100%.

However, on the other side of this, I spoke to my Guide tonight (not because we want to add on at AKV, but because we want BWV). Anyway, he told me they have no details at all about it. He also said they won't release details until they get registration in all of the states where they need to have it, and that's a big undertaking. So the details will be a little while yet.

Still, if they have enough details to issue a press release, then the press release should have been emailed to members.

I totally agree, if nothing else the exact Press release could be put in a members email mass mailing.

Well, whadda ya know -- the official press release concerning AKV is now on the DVC member website! Not on the home page though, gotta look in the "What's New" section. I'd have thought something like that would have been placed front and center. It also includes the same artists rendering that Tikiman provided earlier as well as stating that the new section will include shops, restaurant, and a new themed pool area.

I think that folks who spend a lot of time online overemphasize the need for timely updating of online websites. Unless they're actively selling something, the website can be updated whenever they get around to it. There is no compelling need to be sure that the website has information posted before we learn about it using our inside contacts.

I'll have to go check it out. I just looked at the website a few minutes ago to see if they had the announcement on there and I expected to see something on the home page.

I think it was entirely appropriate to let the DVC employees know before releasing the info to the public including DVCers.

I am happily surprised that the website has already been updated. Did anyone check the what's new section yesterday? I didn't....just the main page.
