DVC buy-in $86 a point still available at DL!

ahem...
DVC runs different promos ALL the time:thumbsup2 ; one of them is 'Friends & Family'; where you get "X" amount of $ off the rate by using a current DVC member's name:) . In my state, we're not allowed to receive compensation for referrals:mad: ; but if anyone wants the discount in the future -look me up on the DVC board & i'll direct you to the proper spot;) .

Additionally, for those of you who don't want to buy into SSR or even the minimum point buy-in; there is a resale market - check it out. You don't get the promos; but can make the difference up in lower sales price.

Must agree, I'm on the fence as to forking over the large # of points required for an on-site DL stay:scared1: . Hope they either convert a floor or 2 of the hotels or get a free-standing unit in ASAP.

Correct me if I'm wrong but... 102 points @ $86/point for a three night stay at GCH is $8772. That is $2924 per night??? YIKES!!! How on earth is that a good deal? I must have something screwed up, right?

Ok, I called the 800 number that was on the DVC website and talked to a guide on the phone about DVC. I then see this thread about better incentives when buying at DL i.e. $15 off pp, 2 free AP's....and now am wondering if I should hop the next plane to DL (or just drive there) and get in on this offer. I'm waiting for the guide that I had talked to the other day to call me back. I am going to ask about this offer. I don't understand how they can have two different incentives for buying at the same place? They asked me where I was calling from when I first phoned. I said California. This would save me almost $1500 on a 150 point purchase and nearly $2000 for 250 points. Is it too late for me do you think? Since I already talked to someone else on the phone? Help!!

Hi Wendy!

You MUST tour at DL. Quite frankly, I've said all along it's probably worth it for most people to fly to DL just to tour. The 2 APs alone are worth $700, and they are only available with a DL tour, NOT WDW.

As for the GC being 102 points. Yup, the DL hotels are high points per night, and it annoys me. I'm hoping for better when/if they announce a DL DVC, but the hotel market is just plain different at DL. BUT---it's not 102 points x $86 per point. That $86 per point is buying you 46 years of vacations, not just this one. I didn't crunch the numbers too heavily---I freely admit this was an emotional purchase for my family---but the DIS DVC board people have crunched them to death and could probably help you better with the point value vs. vacations.

Really not trying to put salt in the wounds if you're not ready to buy, but...

DSis bought on Saturday, and was able to get Dec 2006 use year points at SSR. That means that even though it's almost March, she is getting a full 2006 set of points! DL AP rate was $86 per point, plus the two APs for either DL or WDW.

No time to talk...she's using her points for our December trip---gotta go find a Villa for the 7 of us! :cool1:

OUCH! Patti that kinda stings!! :rotfl:

Actually glad your Dsis could buy at that. With dh's job hanging in the balance with a new company takeover I just cant justify it yet. Maybe soon.

However many points you buy, You get that number of points per year for the length of the contract rather than just one year. There are also yearly fees involved. You can accumulate and double up on points. So if you only go every two years and bought 150, you can use 300 every two years. You can also rent out unused points and there is an after market for selling DVC timeshares.

We looked into it and in a nutshell this is what we found.

If you go to Disney regularly and usually stay in deluxe level accommodations or you need a villa, it can be a very good deal.

We found it would not be a good deal for us because we don't stay in deluxe level accommodations. We go non-Disney in California and Disney Value in Florida. We also wait for deals to pop up like free dining.

I got in on this deal about 2 weeks ago.:cool1: Very excited to be planning my first trip home for September. Hoping for AKV, but if not WLV. My points became effective on 12/1/06, so I hve my points for this year already, plus 2 APs for WDW this year. Will only have to buy 1. But that will only be if we stay AKV. That will be the only way my Dad will join my Mom and I. If it is WLV, it will be a mother-daughter trip. The $15 off per point was just too good to pass up. I had planned to wait for AKV points to go on sale, but the $15 off was much better than that higher price with no discounts.

Thank you. Although a frequent visitor to DL, I decided to make a trip to DW next year. Until now, I thought DVC was only for DW and the point system, in this thread, confused me. Now I need to spend some time reviewing the literature. The $12,000 doesn't sound like a bad deal at all. Thanks for explaining the system, it makes perfect sense now.

Please, please, please let them keep this going till we come out to DL in July. For us this would be a great deal. Anyone know if you can pass on the vouchers to someone else or must you use them?

The DL APholder magazine states that this promo will end on March 5, which coincides with the initial public offering of AKL. :sad2:

Cheer up, though! As several posters have said, there are ALWAYS incentives out there. You'll find the perfect contract when you are perfectly ready to buy in!

The math works out as follows: $86 per point divided by 46 years left on the contract = $1.87 per point per year.

Then, you have to add the maint fees in. 2007 for SSR is $4.12 per point.

Add the per point per year cost plus the maint fees ($1.87 + $4.12)= $5.99 per point cost.

Take the per point cost ($5.99) X number of points used (102) = $610.98 divide by 3 nights = $203.66 per night. There are no taxes on top of this and it includes the resort fee (but not valet parking).

If you were to pay cash, you would have to add the taxes and resort fee onto the room rate in order to compare.

Some folks calculate this differently when trying to figure out if using points would be the best deal (the other option would be to rent out points and using the proceeds to pay cash for the room). They use $10.00 per point because this is the average rate to rent points.

Wow! I had no idea!!!! I wonder what they will offer when I am there in May????? Hum..... I planned on buying AKV once it was availible to the public but I think I will wait and see what they offer in May at DL!

Thanks!
Karrie
