DVC booking questions

Hi!

I just signed a contract for a resale at AKV and am trying to do as much research about booking and rooms before I get my member number. I have a family trip scheduled for the first week of December, but I know I probably won't be able to get a DVC villa for that trip bc we don't close until May and I understand that that is a very popular week. So here is my question, and expect more as I continue to dive into everything..

My brother bought into another timeshare and is convinced that it is better than DVC for the DVC villas. He was told that with his timeshare, he can use his points to book an entire vacation package with tickets, dining plan, and DVC villa. Is this something that goes on a lot or would it be the same as using a 100 point DVC contract to go on a cruise or something? To me it just sounds too good to be true. He is also wondering how things work from the outside looking in. Through the RCI trade, when can DVC villas be booked by members of other timeshares? Is the availability for them limited? It's a little frustrating that I paid into something but non members may get more perks than me.

Ok last question. I think I remember seeing it asked already but can't remember where I saw it. If the 7 month mark for the first week in December hasn't happened, why are there rooms available through the Disney website? Can I reserve one and then use my points to pay for them once I get through the process?

You might want to do some very quick learning on the DVC process. It seems you have already bought in and don't really understand how it works. I can't help you with your questions about other timeshares. As far as there being availability on the Disney website, that is a COMPLETELY different animal. They can book their hotel rooms whenever they want. They don't come from the same inventory as the DVC villas. And no, you can not reserve now and then pay with points later.

Maybe I should a prefaced this in my original post, I've been researching since September. I think it was a reseasonable thing to ask about the villas on Disney's site. I was fairly certain the answer was no, but thought I could ask on here just to be sure. I did not buy a DVC on a whim. There is still a lot to learn, but much of that comes with time. But I think everyone would have questions if they had a family member comparing their timeshare to the DVC, trying to make it seem way better.

At each DVC resort, Disney retains a small percentage of ownership that it can use for renting and it also has inventory to rent as a result of trade outs by members and capturing points through forecloses or purchases of resales through exercise of right of first refusal for resale. That rental inventory is separate from DVC points inventory and is not available to owners using points. It can often be available to the public when nothing is on points and you cannot make a cash reservation through Disney and later turn it into a point reservation through DVC.

I am unaware of any way to trade in through RCI to a resort package that includes DVC room, tickets, and dining plan. DVC members can through DVC member services purchase tickets and the dining plan. Also, DVC members have perks (such as discounts on APs, recreational activity, restaurants and 10% on merchandise purchases at WDW) that are not available to those trading in through RCI.

I've never heard of an all inclusive trade into DVC. I think your brother is blowing smoke. Or he doesn't understand what he bought.

Or he had a really "good" salesman. And by "good" I mean willing to lie in order to make the sale.
