DVC at DL

I'm not so sure the 11 month booking window will be as critical as some think. Most DLR trips are not planned that far in advance by locals (CA). Most of us on the west coast make fairly short notice types of trips booking 2-6 months out. I also don't see them taking away the option to book at the other DLR hotels until enough DVC units are available.

That is true. We always book unless the ship is in town...2 months out and even the trip me and DH are taking this weekend together we booked last week. There has always been availability in a short notice as close as a week out. Wonder if that will change.

If there is a ship here permanently than it will be much tougher because of those coming to sail and stay go to DL. But we love the short notice and we always stay at the GCH...because it is so much nicer than the other 2.

I disagree that a point is a point... Many many people use the 11 month booking window.

And the most Cost efficient way to own is to bank and borrow.

And on a personal note, since there are so few units at GCV, it pains me to think of someone planning on renting out points for profit. :worried: :(

You’re right.
I made a generalization that was based on my personal usage (off peak season, studios) which doesn’t seem to be too critical to use 11 month booking window.
But you’re right that other accommodation will need 11 month window.
I guess I was looking at the rental board and see that pretty good amt of people are asking for availability less than 7 months and still getting them.
And regardless of the points being rented (BCV or VB) less than 7 months generally has similar asking price.

Anyways,
I think you misunderstood me.
I was not asking about how to make a profit out of purchasing GCV.
I was merely wondering what is the best way to own this resort without the pain of having to bank and borrow on a yearly basis.

For me it seems easier to own enough for each year than having to bank & borrow (which is what I do now with my current points).
If that means I have to rent out my points every now and then so be it.
It’s better than worrying on whether I have enough on a yearly basis or having to find someone to transfer points into my acct just to make the reservation.
Understanding the price point, it might not be feasible for me to do so anyways.
For me it’s not about profit, it’s about ease of use without losing out a lot of $ with the increased flexibility.

If you think renting points is less of a pain than banking and borrowing then all the power to you...

:thumbsup2
