Is there any information on the board about DVC at Disneyland ?

We've been planning to buy DVC at WDW but I thought I should check out DL's before we do since we can drive to DL (granted a long drive but it is drivable lol )

Yes, a new DVC at Disneyland has been announced: Grand California Villas. It's going to be fairly small (50 2 bedroom units are currently being built) with a planned availability date of Dec 2009. Speculation is that DVC might start a 'Pre Sales' offering in Spring of 09, with members who recently purchased through the Disneyland DVC office being given first chance to buy (calling it the 'GVC Founding Members program'). 90 days later, it will be open to other existing DVC members, then to the public.

The last discussion thread with updates about this project is:

Please review that thread and let me know if you have additional question. Happy to provide any info I have...

What is the advantage of purchasing a DVC threw DL that is for a resort at WDW ? I'm a little confused about that.

I was hoping if I purchased at DL our home resort would be one of the DL ones.

The DVCs that they are currently marketing are AKV and SSR. You can buy other resorts from Disney. Or do a resale. Because they are not selling DVC at Grand Californian yet you would have a WDW resort as your home resort, even if you buy at DL. The big advantage to buying in California now is that if you buy 160 points at SSR or AKV you will have first shot to add on when they do start selling the DL DVC units. I have a good guide in California. PM me if you would like her name and good luck in your decision.

Until the announcment of GCV, there was no advantage of purchasing DVC through DL. Now, the benefit is that you get first chance at an add on purchase at the GCV resort, prior to the rest of membership or the public. If you plan on visiting DL often and want to stay in the GCV once they are open, it may be difficult to book at the 7mo mark due to the small size. You will have to own there to book at 8-11mo in advance. Therefore, if you plan to purchase an existing DVC resort now and GVC when it opens, it would be smart to purchase through DL so you have that 'Pre Sales' window option. Speculation is that GVC could sell out quickly. How quickly, no one knows...

There currently isn't a DVC resort at DL (until GCV opens in 2009) Until then, you can use your DVC points to book hotel rooms at DLH, PPH or GCV. Since these aren't DVC properties, the point chart for the rooms are based on rack rates (basically DVC sells the point equivalent at your Florida DVC resort, then takes the cash and pays the DL hotel you select...)

Keep in mind if you purchase AK or SSR now, you'll only be able to use those points to book at the 7 month window for the GCV. I don't think GCV will sell out so quickly that non-members will not have the opportunity to buy there.

If you are about to buy though, why not just buy from the sales team at DL. That way you are "guarnateed" to be a founding member of GCV and will be able to purchase if you want. It would make sense since all the incentives are the same as the 800 number or WDW purchases.

PM me if you'd like my guide's name and phone number at DL. She is fantastic and pulled out of her hat the most complex New Year reservation I have ever seen, all within 24 hours of our purchase.

Hi Catrina,
Have you already contacted DVC with my referral info? If so, then they would've already given you to my guide who is in Florida. Talk to him, and ask if he can offer you the same incentives that are available in the CA office. If not, ask him to transfer you to a guide in CA. You can still use me as a referral, and will get any incentives - they've increased since we talked last! But sometimes it seems that the CA office has more "extras" to offer - like lithographs or park passes etc.

PM me if you have any more questions!

3 weeks ago I went to the DVC presentation at WDW. We decided to go to Disneyland on our day after we returned home to Los Angeles to compare the deals. We got the same offer that we had at WDW for SSR or AKV, but besides the opportunity to purchase Grand Californian Villas when they come out before they are offered to the general DVC members, we also got 2 vouchers for premium annual passes. The vouchers are good for 2 years, so now I don't have to buy a pass for the next 2 years, that's a significant savings.

When we were in Florida, we asked our guide there if there was any reason to purchase in California over Florida, and she didn't believe there was. I'm so glad we went to Disneyland and found out for ourselves that they were offering more than Florida thought they were offering. We called her after we closed the deal here in California, because we didn't want to leave her hanging. She was surprised that we could get so much, and wished they were allowed to offer something like that in Florida. It sure doesn't hurt to compare the two. Now we have a guide in Florida, and one in California since they split the sale. I think they try to make the offer a bit more appealing in California since you really can't see what you are buying, and there is no history of DVC at the resort here.

4 years ago I tried to find someone at Disneyland who could give me info on DVC. The response I got was "What's DVC?" It will be interesting to see how the DVC develops here.

Can you get the DL incentives over the phone? My guide is in DL and I was wondering if I add on with her over the phone, will I be able to purchase at GCV when it is offered to those members, and if so how many points will I have to add on at AKV or SSR to do so?

I'd never met my guide in person, until AFTER my first add-on! They will FedEx you any documents you need to sign, and include a prepaid return envelope. :thumbsup2

I know I can purchase over the phone but will I be a "GCV founding member"

And if the OP split the sale so the WDW ad DLR guides got credit, how will that work. I thought the deal was you had to buy a full contract at AKV or SSR at DL
to be a founder. If I go and just do an add on will that count? I'm sure not....

Are the vouchers good for 2-years or 2 years worth of annual passes? We thought it was 1 year with a voucher good for 2 years. We haven't got ours in the mail yet, so not sure. I agree, it was a great bonus at Disneyland! We also have been getting DVC goodies in the mail all the time. We love our guide. :)

I clarified the pass thing when we were at the Disneyland office. It was 2 vouchers, each good for 2 years. I am the only premium passholder, so that is why I won't have to get a pass now for 2 years.

Hello Everyone....we just did all our paperwork at the DVC office in Anaheim over President's Day weekend. We had been sent the paperwork via FedEx but decided to up the points on the initial purchase....since we were going to be in DL for the weekend, the sales guide told us to come there to do the papers....I'm glad we did, they went over each page with us highlighting what each page meant, you don't get that from a FedEx package....also our guide loaded us up with goodies (hats, pins, photo albums, another tote bag) and there is also one page that requires a notary...the DVC office offered that service free....

Part of our paperwork entitles us to be founding members of the DVC Grand Villas. We can purchase a MAX of 160 pts initially and if we want more we have to wait until the pre-sale is over. Our guide also indicated that the construction work appears to be ahead of schedule and they are hopeful they can begin pre-sales later this year. California law only permits the pre-sales within a 6 month window of available occupancy. So that could mean the villas will start coming online for use maybe late spring, early summer '09.

We also received 2 vouchers for passes ....each voucher is good for a 1yr premium pass @ DL or a 1yr annual pass @ WDW. We have until next year to actually use the vouchers

We purchased at DL in Dec 08 and received the 2 annual passes. Supporting the above post, they are good for 1 year, but we have until June 09 to activate. Maybe that's where there was confusion about them being valid for 2 years. Our guide did say that if we weren't able to activate them by then, then she would swap them out for another set of vouchers... Also, we can turn the vouchers in for either DL Premium passes or WDW Park Hopper passes (doesn't include the water parks...) Now we just have to choose

Indeed, it will. We purchased DVC at DL in 2005, not long after they first opened an office on the west coast, I believe. The office had a small model of an OKW unit on display. Had never been to WDW - heck, nor Florida, at the time. Why fly for hours when DL is an hour's drive away? And my childhood memory was of relatives that visited Florida and reported that restaurants served milk with ice cubes in it to keep it cool. :sad2: Heresy!!!

We now spend a week at WDW/DCL each year with at least monthly trips to DL/CA. The GCV will come in very handy....

Can someone please provide me with their dvc guide info in california? I can't pm anyone since I am a new member and haven't posted enough on the boards. Thanks in advance!
