This may have been asked, and if so I apologize that I did not find it, but.....

With the new APs being released what happens to those of us who have renewal certificates that won't be activated for a few months? We were able to "renew" our APs early for a December trip since our expiration date fell in the middle of the trip. Can I assume that when we activate / redeem the certificate it will redeem as a Platinum (what the certificate is for) for a year (so include PhotoPass) and then in Dec. 2022 we'll be "downgraded" to the Incredi-pass when we renew?

This is a good question! Some are reporting that they are being told by Disney that renewal certificates will be activated as the new product and not what was purchased. I notice in MDE that my certificates are now labelled as "exchanges", which is concerning to me. I assumed I'd have Photopass included, but now I'm not sure.

Well that is frustrating, but at least we got the discounted renewal. Ours say Exchange now as well.

ETA: I just did a DVC Chat and she indicated it should activate as a Platinum Pass. Will have my wife try her luck at the chat game and check with another person at some point.

It's not just the loss of Photopass, but there's also a change to the block out dates. It probably only affects a small percentage of APs but it does mess with vacation plans for those who wanted to activate Gold APs over Thanksgiving.

When you purchase a new AP or Renewal by PHONE, it's issued in the form of an "Exchange Certificate". Been that way for a long time.

Mine is not labeled as exchange. It simply states Gold Pass (Ages 10+) Expires 12/31/2030. Of course, I bought it more than 2 years ago and have not activated it.

I just spoke with someone on the dvc chat and I have a gold pass I am not using for the first time til this Thanksgiving. They told me it would work and include what the gold pass normally did, including photo pass until the pass expires.

Was this a first time purchase or a renewal of a previous pass?

I'd like to know also. Saw mine was renamed as Exchange and I got a recovery AP last month which I will activate also in November. Cannot believe it was almost $190 less than the new AP for DVC including tax. $765 versus $953.

I renewed my gold yesterday and the CM told me ”yay you got one more year before needing the new AP” so I was assuming it renewed gold and will stay that way until next September

DisneyFoodBlog.com has some info on how the new system will impact those who currently have an annual pass:

https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021...for-disney-world-and-there-have-been-changes/
Scroll down to find the section on "How This Impacts Current Annual Passes"

I found the following statements from that page to be helpful - I have an exchange certificate for a new GOLD pass purchased under the recovery offer.

"If you have an Annual Pass that is NOT activated, like you have a certificate for a pass, this is different. To keep this pass, you need to visit the parks and activate it by September 7th. If you do that, you will keep your pass for the next year. "

"If you do NOT activate your pass by the 7th, your pass will be converted into the new Annual Pass system on September 8th. You will be given a pass that is comparable to the one you already have a certificate for, meaning you will NOT lose any of the perks included in that pass. So, if you have an unactivated pass that includes PhotoPass and the Waterparks and Sports option, you will not lose those perks. They will remain on your pass for free. Your park reservations will also not be changed or deleted."

In my situation, I would expect to exchange my certificate in October for a Sorcerers Pass plus the PhotoPass upgrade. So the Thanksgiving black out dates would apply to me. I would have to activate before 9/7 to use the pass for the Thanksgiving dates and would continue to have the Easter dates blacked out for 2022.

Thanks for the info. We will be there this weekend so are going to ask about our renewal certificate. Since our current pass doesn’t expire until December 26 I am not sure if they can do anything with it at this point.

My sister has the same issue, but made worse because she renewed thinking she could use it during our Thanksgiving week trip (which is now a blackout date under Sorcerer). In July we both renewed our Gold pass. For some reason mine renewed normally (with a July 2022 expiration date) and my sister's shows up as a rewnewal certificate. Maybe because I applied an old ticket to mine?

Anyway, it stinks if she has to get Sorcerer because we have.a Thanksgiving trip planned this year and she renewed in July assuming she could use it that week.
