DVC AP activation?

This will be our first time with DVC and AP's as well. We'll be going to Epcot after breakfast at 'Ohana arrival morning and will need to spend some time getting our passes activated also. I'm hoping it doesn't take too long and we can get on Soarin' pretty quick before lines get too long. Breakfast is at 7:30 and opening at 9 a.m. I'm so excited that it's almost here though.

DoEs anyone know if we can activate our DVC annual, passes at Guest Relations at Disney Springs? We have to be there anyway for a variety of things so that would be ideal. Thank you.

Yes, we've activated our APs in DS more than once. Be prepared for a wait, though, if you're there when DS is busy, such as a weekend evening. On Sunday March 12 they were taking names and telling people to come back in an hour!

Activating our first one's in September. Will the expiration be printed on the back of the discount card? I assume if I activate on 9/10/17 it will expire on 9/10/18.

We will be upgrading one ticket to the AP and the others were purchased as AP already. Does one still require entry to MK to get a lower upgrade fee? Thought I read this last year, but not recent. The ticket is coming from UT with an Amex offer.

Check the back of the AMEX ticket. You might not be able to upgrade it.

No the expiration is not on the card. You need to check your mde account for the expiration date.

We renewed ours in person at DS in March, and without being asked the CM wrote our names and the expiration dates on the backs of our cards. So it's not printed on the backs but you can certainly ask for it to be hand-written there. In addition, as n2mm says, it's also shown in your MDE account.

When we went to Disney Springs last year to get passholder cards for our online renewal, the CM handed us the cards and a sharpie so that we could write our names & expiration date on the back of the cards

That is what happened to us when we renewed at DHS at Guest Relations.

We waited in line at DHS GS window about an hour last October. It was very frustrating

Be sure the upgrading is done correctly. We upgraded three 7 day hoppers from UT and it was dated from the purchase date. So the annual pass was only 6 months long. I thought simple mistake, but went back to resort front desk and manager told me it was indeed correct. Member Services said it can be corrected at guest services at a park. But next day CM at guest services told me the same thing. It took a supervisor before I got it fixed. Didn't plan to spend hours on upgrading.

Do you think this would work? Buying a MYW ticket, say 5 day ticket, using it April 2018, peak Easter vacation time, then upgrading it on the last day to a DVC annual pass. Since the DVC passes can't be used during Easter, I was wondering if this might be an option.

Yes, this can be done.

FYI, it's only the Gold Pass that can't be used during that time period. The Platinum & Platinum Plus Passes (also available at a reduced price to DVC Members) do not have blockout dates.

My daughter did this last year and it worked just fine. Remember that your ap start date will be the first day you use the hopper ticket. Also he had access to all her photos once she upgraded to the ap, so use the photo option during the hopper use.

Yes, but I was thinking about upgrading to the Gold ticket the last day of the trip. I totally forgot that DVC gets discounts on the platinum passes. Thanks for the reminder.
