I was under the impression that DVC charged for local calls and accessing 800 #'s. The place card beside the phone in the villas indicate a charge. We recently were at OKW for 4 nites and made several local calls and one 800 call. When I got my bill there were no charges. Maybe it's a member perk. Is this a change or has it always been that way ?

The few times I've stayed at DVC (and most recently the Poly 12/99) none of our local calls or 800 calls showed up or they waived them without us asking them to. It's probably up to the discretion of the CM's. :)

At HH we were charged .35 each for local calls. You should be careful because we trying to order pizza and the line was busy. It took 7 attempts to get through. Each attempt was charge on my check-out bill.

I took this to the front desk and they gladly removed them from my bill. Later I notice that even partially dialed numbers that never got a chance to get through were charged.

I made a long distance call that was no more than 2 minutes and it was 16.38.

In Feb at BWV we were charged .35 for every local call - all to access AOL! Any other calls that were local or long distance I used my cell phone so I can't comment on the LD charges.

On a trip in Sept. at OKW, we had a laptop and connected several times
via local number and several times via an 800 and were not charged for
phone calls.

However, this trip in March, we made several connections via a local
number, once again, but this time we were charged 35 cents per call.

So, I am was confused also. The card by the phone says 75 cents will
be charged for local and 800 calls. I wonder if one should bring this up
at check in, possibly the cast member should enter a code into the
computer, and maybe it gets overlooked.

In Feb. I was charged for every call I made at the BWV. I sometimes try to use a payphone (dialing my 800 calling card#), but there are times when I call from my room.

Every time we have syayed at OKW, I always call the front desk and ask about 1-8oo calls.........and every time the front desk says 1-800 calls are "FREE" for DVC members. I still call and ask every time we are there. We just returned Feb 20th and the 1-800 calls were free.:D :D

I've stayed at OKW twice & BWV twice in the past 2 years and each time was charged 35 cents for dial up calls (local AOL), nothing for 800# or calls to other WDW resorts.

Yes, the 35 cents for local and nothing for 800# is a DVC perk. For non-members, it's 75 cents for both local and 800#.

Is that .35 per minute for a local call,,,,or a one time fee.....seems to me that when i was on my laptop at the ASsports in Jan...i didnt get charge and I was on the laptop for 2 hrs at nite.....thanks:jester:

For what it's worth, from January to March, I stayed at all 5 DVC resorts (8 stays, 39 nights). I was never charged anything for local or 800 number calls.

Over the past 9 years, we've never been charged for toll-free or local calls, even though the card says we should be. However, I use a cell phone to connect to my email to avoid the extremely high long-distance charges.
