DVC and Park Tickets

I am assuming DVC only "pays" for our resort stay, and we are "on our own" to find tickets to the parks? What's the best way to get the best deal on tickets -- hopper?

There is a nice DVC discount on Annual Passes. Otherwise there are some discounted passes by other vendors and there is even a discount for advance purchase of MYW passes thru Disney directly.

I went to the official DVC website, but I cannot find anywhere that it tells me what type of discount members receive for Annual Passes. Can you point me in the right direction?

You need to go to the members only section and get to it that way. The discount is $100 off for an adult AP.

Go to the Member's only log in and after logging in, click on "member perks". Then click on the Walt Disney World link and it comes up on the next page. Click on it, and it will take you to the Disney ticket page. When you check out, the discount is applied.

I have used outside vendors to purchase MYW tickets. The discounts can be pretty decent and most include free shipping and copies of the backs in case you lose them. Some people complain about them being paper tickets (they aren't really, they are quite durable), but they worked for us. You'll find good info on http://www.allearsnet.com/pl/ticketchart.htm. For us, we would purchase the max, 10 day, no expiration, park hoppers, so we could use them until they were done. We've never yet been able to make financial sense of AP's though we are hoping to change that.

As for the DVC AP, but I believe you can buy them on line or when you are there. If I'm wrong, someone correct me.

I think the AP costs the same as a 10 day, park hopper no expiration MYW ticket. We'd never gotten the AP until this year when we're hitting Disney World 3 times w/in a 12 month period for about 13 days. There's some other discounts available with the AP that might make it worth while if you're staying less than 10 days (like being able to buy the DDE to save 20% on food and booze at most restaurants).

The advance purchase discount is available to anyone. You can purchase it via the WDW website - www.disneyworld.com
You only have to pay gate price if you purchase your pass on site.

For DVC Annual Passes, you can purchase a voucher (not the actual AP) online prior to arrival, then trade it for the actual pass at Guest Services at one of the parks or downtown disney. You can also simply wait and purchase the AP after you arrive at a park or DtD guest services location. Either way, you'll need to have your DVC Membership Card and a photo ID to trade a voucher or buy the pass in person.

If you are a AAA member, then check out the great discount it gives you. We are going to WDW from Aug 4-11th this year and we can actually get a 5 day hopper pass for what WDW would charge us for a 3 day hopper pass. It will free us up to be more relaxed and to come and go to any of the parks during that 5 day period. We are so excited! The space shuttle is going up on August 9th. We just purchased tickets to see the launch and also have lunch with2 former astranauntsand also explore Kennedy Space center for the day. This will be a HUGE fun filled vacation for us!!!!!!!!!

Even before the DVC discount on APs came out, we learned the value of using APs even if we only traveled to WDW once a year. When we first joined DVC, that was our habit and also our plan. We purchased an AP...used it for one trip, and then planned our next year's trip just a week short of the 12 month mark to get 2 year's worth of trips on one pass.

Of course, now we buy the APs and visit WDW 2-3 times a year, so our strategy has changed a bit. Now we purchase the AP, travel 2-3 times in a year, let it expire and purchase a new one after we have had a 6-7 month break. It stretches out the AP cost, and is definitely the cheapest way to do the parks each trip. We started a new AP last December. We had 10 days on it then, 10 days on it in May, and will get 12 days on it in November. Then we aren't going to go to WDW until March, so we will buy new APs next March and start the cycle over. I think 32 days on one AP is a great value!

We checked with AAA Wisconsinnd found that they only offered discounted 4 - day Park Hopper Passes. The adult is $247.00 and child $213.00 (including taxes). I called about a 7 day Hopper and they told me that they only discount the 4 day pass.

We do the same thing with our AP's! It is a great way to get the best value for your money
