How many DVCer's do the meal plan?

This question would mainly be to those who rent villas, it's the kitchen factor- I have back and forth about whether or not to do the meal plan for us.

If I could do it for just DH and myself I probably would, but I have my Mother joining us to help take care of our 1 and half year old, so she may not eat "out" as much as DH and I. But still I can only imagine with a kitchen we will all eat out less than normal. I have TS dinner ADRs every night, but I expect all our breakfasts and some lunches will be taken at the villa.

Anyone else not doing the meal plan because of a kitchen?

We're staying at BWV and doing the DDP in December. Most breakfasts in room, all other food provided on plan. For us, I can't imagine interrupting our day and going back to the villa for lunch, or leaving the parks early enough for dinner. That's what decided it for us.

Don't want to hijack your thread, but I have a question. I am renting points from a DVC member and just for curiousity how do you add the dining plan onto a DVC reservation? Do you use points or pay cash?

Thank you!

You pay cash when you check in, BUT = the member from whom you're renting has to call Member Services and book the Dining Plan for you.

All of the 1 and 2 BR villas have full kitchens...the studios have a mini frig, microwave and toaster and coffee pot.

We are DVC'ers and rarely do the dining plan...if we stay in a studio we do it more often than if we are in a villa.

When our children were small it was much easier to return to the villa for lunch and naps. We also loved being able to get up and let everyone have breakfast when they were ready and not have to lug everyone out to eat at breakfast. We would have a nice TS dinner in the evening but loved the convienence of being able to do sandwiches and breakfast in the room. Face it one restaurant meal a day is enough for most toddlers.

Don't feel like you have to do the DDP, it is a lot of fun now that my children are older teens, but it would not have been a great idea for us when they were tots!!

I was just joking. I'm a member too but I never cook on vacation.;)

Or...as DD5-going-on-25 said upon entering a studio,"Daddy! Where is that big room with the TV???"

:lmao: I'm so spoiled by DVC we're having a hard time going from a 2brm to a 1brm to extend our points:snooty:

Hello...just thought i'd chime in. I've only ever stayed in a grand villa with a full kitchen and a studio. When we stay in the grand villa we do not get the DDP. We enjoy spending time there and all having dinner together since there is usually 12 of us. However my DBF LOVES the DDP and we always get it when we stay in a studio. We are in the process of planning a 11 night 12 day stay in a sudio for us and his parents. I think its to long of a trip to have the dining plan but he insists and doing it anyway. Its a gift to his parents since his mom has always wanted to go. Anyway...a little off topic but I can't find out how much the DDP is per adult per day. Thanks for anyone who can help!

we stay at 1 bedroom and have always used the DDP. we usually eat breakfast in, but the rest is vacation

We are DVC members and are trying the DDP for the first time next month. My sister rented some points from us and stayed at OKW in a 1-bedroom and loved it. She said she didn't use the kitchen much except for breakfast.

Cost of DDP is $38.99 per adult.

We used the dvc dP last October for 2 weeks - wow is that ever alot of food!!! found it to be way too much. next time we will get the DDE card with our AP since we usually go several times in one year then take a year or 2 off. That being said we are doing the dining plan again this August b/c we are taking my brother and his family and they wanted to do alot of sit down meals so it was going to work out better for us to do the DP then pay OOP.

You mean people actually use the kitchen's in the 1 and 2 bdrm villa's??? No cooking for me on vacations!

We manage about 3 trips a year and do the DDP on one of them. The other's we try to do as inexpensively as possible so we cook in the villa or eat counter service. But our longest trip of the year is usually 8 days and we splurge and do the DDP.

Do you add tax to the $38.99?

That's the final price per day for guests 10+ through the end of 2007. They don't have any final prices/rules/etc on the DDP yet for 2008.

Just back from 6 nights at the BCV-studio (on DDP) and 2 nights at VWL-1BR (non-DDP). DDP was perfect for us, as we typically eat 1 TS and 1 CS per day while in WDW. When we have a studio, we typically have a quick breakfast in the room (bagels, donuts, fresh fruit, coffee, juice, milk)....we made the mistake this year of ordering our breakfast stuff with our water & Pepsi order....next time we'll just pick up our breakfast items in the Market with our snack credits. We had so many snack credits left when we moved to the VWL, we went to the WL market and picked up: Milk, bread, eggs, ham, cheese, chips, butter...and a bowl of grapes from the CS location there. We had breakfast (for our last 2 mornings) and lunch the next day. We only paid out of pocket for 1 dinner (Papa John's Pizza delivery) and 2 lunches (arrival day ESPN & departure day at WCC). I'm hoping they keep this plan around for a while, this is one that definately works for our family.

I was told by others you can not be a DVC member and do the dining plan! Is this not correct? I can have a friend of ours set up our DVC stay with there points and then do the dining plan with that????

I ended up booking POR for our stay at Xmas time, we have 5 peoepl well 6 with the baby. I wanted a bigger place but deluxe wasnot inour cards. the friends of ours offered up it but we wanted to have the DDP so we didnot have to budget in food while there. So we did not take his offer .

I am fine with POR but I really wanted to try DVC for more room.

can someone tell me what the deal is really????

Yes, you can now. 2 years ago NO....but as of sometime last year (if I remember correctly) YES, Member Services can now add to your reservations. You must have added to your ressie prior ro arrival, but you pay for it when you check in. It is the same price as the resort go'ers (37.99 A and 12.99 C) and worked the same way, but you are NOT required to purchase tickets in order to get the DDP.

Let me know if you have aany questions.

If any of you who know DVC have a minute I posted on the resort board a question .

titled-HELP we have POR but we may get DVC now! Figured it being a place to stay I should post it there not on the dining forum

TIA
