We recently had the DVC tour. We were told that once we are DVC members we are considered Florida residents and get the Florida resident discount for park passes. I have searched the forums and cannot find any comments to validate this. Is anyone using this perk?

We are trying to figure out if its better to buy an AP or 10 day tickets with warterparks that never expire. I would be buying tickets for me, DH (who usually only meets us at the park for TS meals), DS 15, DD 10. In Jan 2012 we are planning driving to WDW stopping for a couple days at HH and VB, then 4-5 days at WDW. Then again in Dec 2012 possibly going for a week at Christmas (although I cannot even imagine being there with the crowds).

All comments are greatly appreciated.

I believe that is totally incorrect. Owning DVC does not make you a resident of Florida.

What you were told is incorrect. DVC membership does not make you a FL resident.

Disney's FL Resident requirements can be found here:

Owning DVC does not make you a Florida resident for the purposes of WDW Ticketing. However...DVCers currently receive a $100 discount on regular adult APs and $125 discount on Premium adult APs. There are lso DVC discounts on child AP, but I'm not sure of the amount...it is less of a discount than on the adult APs.

Yep, you only get the DVC discount of $100.00 per person on an Annual Pass. We try to group our AP's to take advantage of the discount. Last year we went in August 2010, October 2010 and April 2011 on an AP. For the number of days we went, it came out to around $14.00 per day per person. Can't beat that price! This year we will get another AP in December when we go and use it in April 2012 and October2012. The discount really helps when you can plan it right. After this next year we are going to bank all our points and save up for a trip to Hawaii using our DVC and Sheraton timeshare, which now also allows banking. With the high cost of airfare, we figure Hawaii is a once in a lifetime trip, so we need to plan and save ahead.

This might be a bit of a strech, but I'm seeing sort of a theme here in the replies....is it possible that you wouldn't be a FL resident by owning DVC????

You need to have a Florida Driver's license and Florida address to be considered a Florida resident.

If you were told that, you were lied to. If you're certain that's what you were told, I'd ask for a different guide if it ever becomes applicable. Even if you buy resale, you'd still have the same guide you toured with if they are still with the Company.

DH and have talked about what we think we heard and are now wondering if we mis-understood what the guide was telling us. When on the tour we were talking about AP or making our tickets from that trip into 10 day with waterpark no expiry. In hindsight we are thinking the guide may have meant that DVC members get the $100 discount off AP like Florida residents???? Not really sure. I'll give him a call next week to clarify but think it's pretty clear that owning DVC doesn't make you a Florida resident.

Disappointed but now will try to figure out if AP or or no expiry is better for our family.

Thank you everyone for responding.

Florida residents get more than $100 off.

Current prices incl tax for a regular adult AP:

Public $552.74
DVC $446.24
Florida Res $414.29

There are no DVC discounts for MYW tickets. However, there are FL Resident discounts.

I'm not sure why the guide would even bring up Florida Residents.

The DVC documents clearly exclude FL residence for ownership at a FL DVC resort, so anything a guide tells you is superceded by the printed documentation.

DVC owernship does not provide any form of FL residency.
