Hi everyone
I am so confused on what I have been reading about booking DCL using points and cash and renting points, etc.....My question is this, I rebooked on board on our last cruise in Oct 2012 before I was a DVC member, now I am DVC, can I still use that cruise i rebooked on board using points and cash? Any information would be GREATLY appreciated?
Thanks so much
Kristy

Did you purchase resale? If so, you cannot use your DVC points for a cruise. Even so, from everything I've read on here a cruise is not a good use of points at all so I wouldn't do it.

The short answer is no you can't. You cannot simply convert a cash reservation to points. You may be able to cancel and rebook the same cabin on points or a combination of points and cash but you will lose the pricing for the cash portion and will have to pay the contract price on the cash portion which will certainly be more per person. Also, you will not be able to get the discount you would have gotten using points for booking on line in all likelihood due to the time limitation. This assumes you have qualified points and not resale points that are non qualified. Say you booked a cabin for 4 on board, if you converted to points and paid for 1 adult on points, you'd likely pay about as much for cash for the other 3 as you're paying now and you'd still lose a chunk of points. If you have use or lose points, you could consider renting them out.

Because DVC members are unable to rebook onboard using points, there is a provision where you can call DVC within 4 days of returning (this may have been changed to within 7 days of returning, I can't remember) and book another cruise and get a small discount on the number of required points. The discount does not add up to much as it is usually less than 10% off, the discount varies depending on the sail date and cabin category for the new cruise, and I don't think they discount the cash rate for additional people at all.

Also remember that any DCL reservation through DVC that is booked with a combination of points and cash must have 100% of the cash paid at time of booking and the cash rates offered by DVC are usually much higher than what can be found by going directly through the cruise line.
