Hi, can someone explain how segments and dining plan work? We will be there 6 nights this summer. Can we do two days of basic dining plan, 2 days of deluxe and then 2 days basic again? If so how do the room cards change? Do I have to check-out and then in every two days?

Thanks!

Segmenting has been discontinued. You must have the same plan for everyone in the room for the length of your stay. The only way to do different plans is to change rooms types or resorts.

Piggybacking onto this DVC thread, does anyone have a link to updated prices for DVC members? I am looking to do some math of if it works out money wise for us.

Thanks!

When we were planning our last trip, Jan 2012, MS told us the following:

QS: 34.99
DDP 51.54
DXDP 85.82

Now the regular plan has changed to the effect of, now one snack instead of two and they added the resort mug to it. (dont think mugs were available except on the deluxe previously)

Ouch, did those raise? I was going off the wrong prices before... Also, do you have the child prices for those too?

Quick Service Dining Plan
Adults: $34.99 | Children: $11.99
Basic Dining Plan
Adults: $51.54 (regular season) | $53.54 (peak season*)
Children: $15.02 (regular season) | $16.02 (peak season*)
Deluxe Dining Plan
Adults: $85.52 (regular season) | $89.52 (peak season*)
Children: $23.79 (regular season) | $25.79 (peak season*)
*Peak Seasons: 2/16/12 - 2/25/12, 3/09/12 - 4/14/12, 6/1/12 - 8/4/12, 12/21/12 - 12/31/12

Premium Dining Plan
Adults: $179
Children: $129
Platinum Dining Plan
Adults: $239
Children: $170

Quick service has changed to one snack per night (used to be two) and the regular DDP now includes the refillable mug. Regular plan always had one snack per night. Mugs used to be available on the quick service and the deluxe but not the regular, now all three plans include mugs.

This is the 2012 lowdown:

Quick service plan: 2 QS, 1 snack per person per night plus mug
Regular plan: 1 QS, 1 TS, 1 snack per person per night plus mug
Deluxe plan: 3 meal credits (either QS or TS), 2 snacks per person per night, plus mug.

DVC does not pay peak season pricing for the regular or deluxe DDP.

Chuck's correct that there is no more segmenting.

Do you know if you have to get a plan per person? My wife and I can get away with splitting most meals and my two 3 year olds never eat all their food ;-)

What you are proposing (3 different segments over a 6 day stay) is exactly why DVC did away with segmenting. It was too much work for the resort front desks, caused too many issues with room cards not working, dining credits not being properly loaded, etc, that DVC got rid of segmenting not too long after they started allowing it. While it may have worked great for your trip, it was a disaster for the resorts to deal with.

Yes, every one listed on the resort reservation must get the same plan for all nights of your resort stay.

I called MS last week about another issue and asked the guy if we could have the dining plan for just one night of our segmented vacation and he said yes. I should have tried to book it right then, but didn't.
