Can anyone tell me if I purchased/rented DVC points can we get a dining plan and would we get free dining if it was offered during our stay?

1) Yes, you can get a dining plan. If you are renting, you must have the member you are renting from add it to the reservation. The catch is that the plan must be paid for as soon as you add it to the reservation, and since you can't call Member Services - only the member can - to add the plan, you have to make an agreement with the member as to how you intend to pay for the plan.

2) DVC reservations are not eligible for the free dining offers. These are available only with the purchase of a room/tickets reservation package at rack rate through WDTC.

I figured it would be to good to be true to get free dining at DVC. It sounds like a pain to do the dining plan while renting points.

I saw that you could stay at a studio at AK for only 69 points for a week in January and points are going for $10 to $12 I thought it sounded like a really good deal.

Perhaps it would still be a good deal and then just pay OOP for the meals that you wanted, but I really enjoy having the dining plan and not having to worry about anything but tip.

I am renting points and it is really not that big of a deal to get the DDP. The DVC owners I am renting from require payment up front. I am going in October. So, two months from now I am going to send them a check and they will add the dining plan when they receive it. Easy peasy. ;)

Just talk to the member you want to rent from. They usually have a method worked out for the renter to pay for the dining plan if they want it. I believe there are some members who will not do dining plans for renters, you just have to find a member to rent from who is willing to work something out about the payment. You need to pay them for the points anyway, just add the dining plan to the payment.

We are renting points, and we did add the DDP. I gave the dvc owner my cc number and she used that to pay for the ddp, so it was charged directly to my card by Disney. It was easy.

To me it's the best of both worlds -- deluxe accomodations at a moderate price, and having all your meals included. As mentioned previously, just find an owner to rent from that is willing to work with you to add the dining plan.
