I think DIS needs FB like private group for certain threads where people have to get approved to join.
Agree except I don’t need it to be a controversial one. I would like to keep on liking all of you strangers.I think DIS needs FB like private group for certain threads where people have to get approved to join.
My solution to this, book stays at the garden rooms. Every time I feel like I'm going to book something else, I end up booking those rooms and it brings a smile to my face. Just special enough to be worth the extra points and the tax but a good enough value to not feel the pain like when you check out of 6 nights in a 2BR there. Spreads the "fun" of that tax into more nights in a room we love.My wife really dislikes VDH at the moment and thinks I bought an overpriced money pit….
Love thisI'm an IT Governance, Audit, Risk, Cyber professional. Got lucky and was able to leverage my background in IT and my education in accounting into something fun (for me) that I rather love all things considered. It's been a fun and very rewarding career. Main reason I can (somewhat) afford this madness is I walked away from buying a beautiful house in the city with a somewhat large lot and instead ended up buying the same thing in the country at less than half of the price.
So far we very much enjoy all of the fun trips we have had and are looking forward to many many more.
I don’t think they have villas in the garden wing and she likes higher floors in general because they are less noisy. My solution to this, book stays at the garden rooms. In a few years when I'm making enough to not worry about that tax at all likely more 2BR and 1BR stays. For now, the garden studios are our happy place at VDH![]()
I felt exactly as she did. I adore the OG DLH. The tower is a complete after thought and you can tell by where they stuck it... and then I dont think they did well on the inside either. At least the "lobby" doesnt smell anymore.I don’t think they have villas in the garden wing and she likes higher floors in general because they are less noisy.
She told me today that she thinks “that ugly tower” ruined the entire vibe and flow of the Disneyland Hotel…. and she has stayed in a 1bd villa there…. so…. there is work to do….
She does however love the “real” Disneyland hotel with the castle headboard that plays music and has Mickey hands holding lights in the bathroom….
We’ll see if January and some time at Palm Breeze and Trader Sam’s can soften the edges a bit….
Yeah, she also does not like mid century modern…. “looks cheap, trying too hard, not comfortable or practical”…. and is not a fan of any of the DTD retheming…I felt exactly as she did. I think RIV was nice due to it having a distinct them which I feel VDH lacks. Although I’ve never been inside a too. At RIV only went there to eat. The lack of a real lobby is very off putting to me a VDH.Yeah, she also does not like mid century modern…. “looks cheap, trying to hard, not comfortable or practical”…. and is not a fan of any of the DTD retheming…
Contrast that with Grand Floridian… which she adored….
I personally dig the Mad Men style vibe… they just need to demolish the fencing that kills the roundabout nature of the resort and figure out a better solution.
She also thought RIV was “fake nice” and was not a fan… whereas I liked it… she did like it better than VDH![]()

Quote from dinner when I told her about this discussion:
“The tower sticks out like a sore thumb in the middle of a nice resort”. “Oh, and while we are at it…. let’s make it look cheap!” “Palm Breeze Bar? They should call it the cheese and booze bar”.
I just drank my wine and chuckled…. because I like it so I know she’s going to have to stay there with me whether she wants to or not…. I guess this is the “for better or worse” part of the vow….![]()
this is a cautionary tale about spoiling your family…![]()

True there is not much space there to work with thats why I assume they opted out of adding a lobby, they probably saved a ton of money too. I have yet to see Poly tower but it looks so nice compared to VDH.Haha. I guess I'm weird but I rather like the tower and think it added a lot of fun character to the property without clashing. Especially after the repaint and freshen up of the other towers too.
I know it's not scientific but when we hang out pool side and chat with families I would say overall people are happy with the new tower, want to stay there, and love the added capacity of the pools, more chairs, etc.
And when they remark on the crazy suite with those huge balconies and such and you let them know you have stayed in there they look at you like -

Just be careful what you wish for. VDH is in a high enough traffic area where I could see it getting crazy if it was too good. I do love me a good lobby, but if it's in a popular spot, VGC, VGF, or Poly, often the level of traffic in there can spike the anxiety. AK (Jambo) and WL are blessed to have great a great lobby but are off the main areas enough to avoid becoming a mad house.
We made a trip over to Riviera a few days ago while we were at WDW and had a very relaxing stay in the lobby after doing a quick run though the gift shop. Very nice and relaxing place.
May your cup overflowth with blue milk and honey! Finally made it to the promise land:

That is the main reason I have them. We haven’t used them yet to stay there, but what I have heard it’s worth it!! We are going next summer, so will know then.Love your mix of resorts. Welcome to the comma clubI may have to ask if you use the VB points for the 3BR units and how you like them. That's a room on my bucket list for the coming years.
