DVC 1,000 Point Club (2025)

Okay, time to answer the questions no one was asking about the 1,000pt Club!

What are the most commonly owned resorts? Least common? How many resorts does an owner in the 1,000pt Club own? Are there resort pairings that are more common than others?

This is probably going to be a series of posts due to the complexity of answering the 'resort pairings' question, but hopefully everyone finds this interesting enough to bear with me!

Big thanks to @Blizzyblizz for keeping post 1 so neatly organized, without it this series of posts wouldn't have happened.

What Resorts Do 1,000pt Club Owners Own?

Okay, the easy question. First, this analyis was done with the state of post 1 from yesterday, Feb 17.

In that dataset, there are 84 owners, here's the ownership breakdown, by resort:

resort-ownership-across-1k-club-png.939717

Grand Flo is the most owned resort among 1,000pt Club members, then BLT and onward. CFW has no listed owners on Post 1 as of time of this post.

The charts in this series of posts is going to be a series of DVC Rorschach tests, so I'll keep my commentary to a minimum.

How Many Resorts Do 1,000pt Club Owners Own?

Okay, this question might be even easier. 1,000pt Club owners own an average of 4.55 resorts per owner. The median is 4 resorts per owner.

But that's a boring answer. Let's look at it a little deeper.

First, just a basic plot of points vs. resorts:

Number of Resorts Plot.png

(n.b., I wouldn't put too much consideration of that trendline outside of it generally pointing up and to the right)

There's other ways to look at it, too. There's 84 owners in this data, let's break it out by quartiles of points ownership first:
  • Min to 25th percentile - 1,000-1,070pts - 3.67 resorts/owner
  • 25th to 50th percentile - 1,076-1,406pts - 4.14 resorts/owner
  • 50th to 75th percentile - 1,425-2,000pts - 4.95 resorts/owner
  • 75th percentile to max - 2,025-4,965pts - 5.48 resorts/owner
Still up and to the right, based on points owned.

We also have quite the range of number of resorts owned by 1,000pt Club, from just 1 resort all the way up to 10. Theoretical max is 17, the number of DVC resorts, but only 16 of those 17 resorts have any owners in the Club.

Let's look at it the other way and characterize the number of points owned by count of resorts owned.
  • 1 Resort Owned - 2 owners - 1,347pts average
  • 2 Resorts Owned - 8 owners - 1,878pts average
  • 3 Resorts Owned - 19 owners - 1,279pts average
  • 4 Resorts Owned - 18 owners - 1,334pts average
  • 5 Resorts Owned - 13 owners - 1,954pts average
  • 6 Resorts Owned - 10 owners - 1,702pts average
  • 7 Resorts Owned - 8 owners - 2,130pts average
  • 8 Resorts Owned - 1 owner - 1,571pts
  • 9 Resorts Owned - 3 owners - 1,838pts average
  • 10 Resorts Owned - 2 owners - 3,050pts average

What Common Resort Pairings Are There Among 1,000pt Club Owners?
Monorail Loop Edition

Okay, so this phase of the analysis is going to be a lot of charts. And dum-dum me didn't set up the spreadsheet in a way that makes for easy charting, so I'm going to look at just a few resorts at a time to make it more approachable, and also easier on me.

Also, this is a pretty shallow look at 'related resorts', no advanced math is being applied, just basic charting and association.

Though I have come up with a 'composite score' of relative preference of resorts, that factors in both the raw count of common ownership, and how that resort's ownership ratio compares to the whole of the 1,000pt Club. Basically combines general popularity and overindexing for a specific resort ownership into a single number. This will show up in the "Relative preferences of other resorts" charts.

VGF Owns Others.png

VGF Owns Others Relative.png

Grand Flo is the most commonly owned resort among the Club and the only resort owned by a majority of 1,000pt Club members. As good a place as any to start for this analysis.

BLT, the 2nd most owned resort, is the most commonly co-owned resort for Grand Flo owners. And co-ownership of BLT is more common than general BLT ownership among the Club. Simply a popular combo!

What might be more surprising are the next resorts up. RIV is the next most owned resort by VGF owners, but barely above average for the Club. Looking at the composite score, which takes into account overall popularity of a resort among the 1,000pt Club, turns out Beach Club is #2! Then RIV, BWV, and SSR.

At the other end, Hilton Head and OKW are not commonly associated with Grand Flo ownership.

Bay Lake Tower

Bay Lake Tower is the second most owned resort among 1,000pt Club members and outside of being 'mutuals' with VGF at the top of the charts, has a different ownership profile.

BLT Owns Others.png

BLT Owns Others Relative.png

So VGF and BLT are both the most commonly owned resorts and also besties.

But they have pretty different friends circles. BLT's other most associated resorts are Saratoga, Poly, and BoardWalk.

At the other end, VDH and Vero are not commonly owned by BLT owners.

Polynesian

Unlike VGF and BLT, the Poly isn't owned by all that many 1,000pt Club owners, just 24% of the owners.

PVB Owns Others.png

PVB Owns Others Relative.png

Okay, well THAT'S interesting. Boulder Ridge ownership amoung Poly owners is way beyond the norm of the overall 1,000pt Club and BRV gets a really high composite score for Poly owners.

Outside of that, BLT, Beach Club, and Copper Creek are next on the list for relative preferences by Poly owners.

At the bottom of the list is basically just Vero.

Anyway, that's all for this post! Future posts over the next few days will look at the following groupings: Pacific resorts (VDH, VGC, and AUL), EPCOT area resorts (BCV, BWV, and RIV), the Lodges (BRV, AKV, and CCV), Atlantic beach resorts (HHI and VBR), and the Hallway Hater resorts (OKW and SSR).

What Common Resort Pairings Are There Among 1,000pt Club Owners?
West Coast Best Coast Edition

Some DISboards members about to learn what a throuple is...
Aulani
Aulani is the 5th most owned resort among 1,000pt Club members, with over a third of Club members owning at Aulani, most of any of the Pacific resorts, so it's a good place to start.

1740021414839.png

1740021425807.png

Looking at the first chart, AUL owners only overindex ownership at a small list of resorts: Poly (by just 0.3%), VGC, VDH, and VBR, basically only 3 resorts. By the time you look at the 2nd chart for the 'composite score', they stand out even more.

At the other end, Hilton Head, Boulder Ridge, and Copper Creek are pretty under-represented amongst AUL owners.

Despite common ownership underindexing at most resorts, AUL owners own an average of 4.86 resorts/owner, which is about a third of a resort more than the overall 1,000pt Club.

AUL owners also have more points than the average 1,000pt Club owner, at 1,936pts/owner vs. 1,651pts/owner for the overall Club.

Grand Californian
Some of these charts might be kinda familiar looking...

1740022134126.png

1740022141265.png

So VGC owners also have strong ownership representation for AUL and VDH. I wonder why.

The 'next up' resorts are also fairly interesting: Animal Kingdom, Grand Flo, and RIviera.

The only major difference vs. Aulani is that no Grand Cali owners also own at Vero, at least not in this group of 84 members. Similar to AUL, however, is the lack of overlap with Boulder Ridge.

The average Grand Cali owner in the Club owns at 5.61 resorts, a whole resort above average, and owns 1,907 points, also well above avearge but not quite as high as AUL owners.

Disneyland Hotel
Okay, we gotta talk about it now. A throuple is "an intimate consensual relationship that involves three people". If you didn't know, now you know.

And that's basically what we've got here, but DVC resorts: Aulani, Grand Cali, and Disneyland Hotel.

1740022422910.png

1740022438095.png

So VDH owners also strongly associate with VGC and AUL ownership...and Riviera?

Meanwhile, while there aren't many VDH owners in the 1,000pt Club, none of them own at a bunch of older resorts: OKW, BRV, HHI, and Vero. But they do overindex at Beach Club, another 2042!

VDH owners own at an average 5.07 resorts/owner, about a half a resort above average, and own 1,558pts/owner, which is about 100pts below average.

Alright, that's it for the west coast resorts! Any preferences for which grouping is next of EPCOT area resorts (BCV, BWV, and RIV), the Lodges (BRV, AKV, and CCV), Atlantic beach resorts (HHI and VBR), and the Hallway Hater resorts (OKW and SSR)?

EDIT: I realize the "average number of resorts/points owned by X resort owners" is new to this post.

Here's the numbers so far for all 6 resorts I've covered.

Average number of points owned by 1,000pt Club members, by resort:
  1. Polynesian - 2,034pts
  2. Aulani - 1,936pts
  3. Grand Cali - 1,907pts
  4. Bay Lake Tower - 1,722pts
  5. Grand Flo - 1,709pts
  6. Overall 1k Club average - 1,651pts
  7. Disneyland Hotel - 1,558pts
Average number of resorts owned by 1,000pt Club members, by resort:
  1. Polynesian - 6.55 resorts
  2. Grand Cali - 5.61 resorts
  3. Bay Lake Tower - 5.6 resorts
  4. Grand Flo - 5.16 resorts
  5. Disneyland Hotel - 5.07 resorts
  6. Aulani - 4.86 resorts
  7. Overall 1k Club average - 4.55 resorts

So I did a thing... I needed 32 points to be at 1000. I said I would not buy any more. 38 direct points were available to me thanks to @AstroBlasters so I couldn't say no right?

I am sitting pretty at 1006 points. Honestly when I bought 100 CCV points I thought owning 1000 points was straight insanity. Well here I am.

100 CCV
191 VGC
300 VDH
415 AUL

What Common Resort Pairings Are There Among 1,000pt Club Owners?
EPCOT Edition

For this, Riviera counts as EPCOT area.

Riviera
Riviera is, somewhat surprisingly, the 3rd most owned resort among 1,000pt Club members, with over 40% of 1,000pt Club members owning at Riviera.

1740447676735.png

1740447690394.png

Looking at the first chart, RIV owners don't have a lot of overindexing or underindexing. VDH is high, while AUL is low and HHI/Vero are very low.

This shows up in the 'composite score' chart, where VDH has the strongest association to RIV ownership. VGF is next up but that's mostly driven by just common VGF ownership is among 1,000pt Club members.

Depending on your viewpoint, it may or may not be much of a surprise that ownership at the EPCOT-walkable resorts are pretty weakly associated with Riviera ownership.

Riviera owners own at an average of 5.11 resorts and own an average of 1,554pts. The 1,554pts is lower than any other resort (so far...?).

Beach Club
Okay, I think this one is pretty fun! I know I said I'd avoid too much opinion-based commentary, but there's a bunch of stuff going on with BCV ownership that I want to comment on.

1740448262321.png

1740448268852.png

First, more 1,000pt Club members own at Beach Club than at BoardWalk, despite BoardWalk being ~60% bigger (in terms of total points) and being fairly direct competitors.

BoardWalk has a bit of a reputation of being the frugal EPCOT resort with lower buy-in and aggressively low points charts for Resort View rooms, so it's interesting that the 1,000pt Club prefers Beach Club.

But Beach Club owners also overindex ownership at BoardWalk! Lotta love going around from Beach Club owners for EPCOT area. But not you, Riviera.

BUT, the resorts with the strongest co-owned association among Beach Club owners are not BoardWalk, but Hilton Head and the three Monorail Loop resorts, VGF, PVB, and BLT. It makes a lot of sense to me that owners that prioritize parks proximity by owning at BCV would also own at the Monorail Loop.

Very weak association with OKW and Vero, more OG 2042s, is also interesting.

In terms of broader ownership stats, Beach Club owners own at an average of 5.79 resorts, which is pretty high. But 'just' 1,585pts per owner, which is on the low side.

BoardWalk
Lotta contrast here vs. Beach Club. For being such similar resorts in terms of 'spec sheet' criteria, the ownership patterns are pretty different.

BWV Owns Others.png

BWV Owns Others Relative.png

First, the similarities to Beach Club: strong association with Monorail Loop resorts. But Poly association is a little weaker. And there's decent co-ownership with Beach Club (which we also just saw from the Beach Club perspective).

But past that? More different than similar at the extremes. BoardWalk has lots of strong association with other 2042 resorts (OKW, BRV, and Vero).

And the anti-BoardWalk appears to be Disneyland Hotel.

Going back to the 'frugal EPCOT resort' reputation, the pieces again fit together here. Bay Lake, the most frugal Monorail Loop resort (by buy-in and points chart), is the strongest associated resort of all and VDH (maybe the least frugal DVC other than CFW) is at the bottom.

In terms of broader ownership stats, BoardWalk owners own at an average of 6.09 resorts, which is quite high. They come in at 1,766pts per owner, which is markedly above Beach Club and Riviera owners in this group.

Next up I think I'll do the Lodges (BRV, AKV, and CCV), then the Hallway Hater resorts (OKW and SSR), and finally wrap up at the Atlantic beach resorts (HHI and VBR).

Convo between me and my husband after the points finally loaded on our last resale which included banked points and our recent 38 points that put us over 1000.

Me: our points finally loaded and I don’t know what we are gonna do with all these points.

Him: it’s a good thing you bought those extra 38 points at Grand Californian or we may not have had enough points!

Me: oh stop you know why we bought them.

He walks away and returns 45 seconds later.

Him: we should stay in the 3 bed grand villa at Aulani in August.

He likes to pretend he doesn’t love this as much as me, but I know he does.
