I just ordered a duvet cover for DD's new room makeover. What is the difference between a duvet & a comforter or quilt??

TIA! :wave2:

If it's a true duvet cover, it'll slip overtop the comforter (with the comforter inside). Think of it as a slipcover.

a duvet cover is something that you put a comforter inside of. You have to have a comforter to put inside it or it will just look like a sheet on the bed.

A duvet is basically a comforter but it has a plain white or beige fabric and is meant to be covered.

A comforter usually has a patterned fabric and is not meant to be covered.

Both can be covered with duvet covers.

The first 2 responses are correct. It's like a big pillowcase for a comforter. Lots of people use them on down comforters, it's also (usually) cheaper to buy a duvet to spruce up an old comforter.

Thanks!!

i guess I'll have to wait to see it, to see if it's see-through. If it's pretty thick, then I can just put her old comforter in it. But if it's thin, than the Disney Princesses might show through.

No wonder I got a good deal!! hahaha

Thanks again!

and - bonus - it's easier to wash a duvet cover then a comforter!

so, since the dog LOVES to sleep ON the bed with us (most times where my FEET go)...I have to wash the duvet weekly.

I have a duvet cover to cover my very expensive and white down comforter. It is easier (and cheaper) to replace the duvet cover if something happens!!!! I also use Duvet clips to hold my comforter to the duvet cover so that the comforter doesn't keep slipping down.

Didn't the OP ask what that difference between a duvet and comforter was not what a duvet cover was??? :confused3

I never had a duvet till this year and I'll tell you why my mother never bought them....because the inside comforter moves too much! Grrr. I'm constantly moving that duvet up each night and shaking the thing to make it straight.

You need to get the clips at bed bath and beyond and it hold the comforter up just fine, no need to do any adjusting.

I safety pin mine from inside so you can't see the pin. Works great.

I was able to change my hunter green comforter to a tan with a duvet cover. Saved a lot of $ when I was redecorating the bedroom.

Thanks guys! All good information. Now I know that I should either pin the comforter or get those clips. I would have been pretty frustrated!!

I love the ones I got at Target for my DDs room, so much easier to wash than a full blown comforter!!
