5 tablespoons butter
6 eggs
1 1/2 cups of milk
1 1/2 cups of flour

in a 13x9 inch pan, melt the butter in a 400 degree oven....in a bowl with a wire whisk or egg beater, beat the eggs, milk and flour....tilt the butter around the sides of your pan and then pour the batter and bake for 20 minutes...it will puff up.serve with maple syrup.....serves six

We love Dutch babies! Thanks for reminding me - we'll have to have them soon. I sprinkle mine with powdered sugar and fresh squeezed lemon juice along with the syrup.

We also love Dutch Babies. Sometimes we'll top it with a can of pie filling - apple, cherry, or blueberry.

I have to tell on DH. One weekend we decided to have Dutch Babies. He called a friend to see if she and her kids wanted to join us- unfortunately he dialed a wrong number. I don't know what that poor woman thought. First thing after she said hello, DH asked "Do you want to come over for Dutch Babies?" She just hung up without a word. Thank goodness this was before caller-id.

Ok, never head of these "dutch babies".

Are they puffy pancakes?

MaryEllen, too funny!

Pum, I have never heard of Dutch Babies either...I would also like to know what these are in relation too! LOL

It sounds like they are similar to German pancakes. I make a version of these that are baked in individual pans and have apples in them. MMMM!

Dutch Babies are a puffy 'pancake' that bakes in the oven. Since there isn't any chemical (i.e. baking soda or powder) leavening, it rises because of the air beaten into the batter (we use a blender to make the batter – I think our recipe is smaller). Anyway, it collapses in the center leaving a puffy edge.
