Hi coffee drinkers! A question -

Yesterday at the grocery store, I bought prepackaged whole bean Dunkin Donuts coffee (the original blend). So this morning, I pour the beans into my grinder, and they smell a little funny in my grinder. Kind of... fruity? I don't know. And the color of the ground coffee is a VERY light brown.

So it's brewing right now. Does anyone else drink this coffee... and is the smell and color normal? I guess I will know soon!

I always buy Dunkin Donut Coffee to brew at home but I buy it at the drive up window because it is cheaper than the grocery store. I also don't grind it at home.

I've never bought the beans, but I love DD coffee. Well, I might love Tim Horton's more....

Let us know what you think of the "home brew."

ROFL! I started a Dunkin Doughnuts thread this morning about their coffee myself.

I didn't like it - I've gone back to my usual coffee Papa Nicholas!

I'm using the ground right now-cinnamon spice. YUMMY!!!

I know I'm practically the only person in the world, but I REALLY don't like the taste of DD's coffee. To me, it tastes like coffee in a bad diner that has been sitting in a pot for days. And believe me. I've tried to like it. A DD opened up in the pretty, small shopping plaza that is a nice Sunday morning walk from my house, so getting coffee there would be ideal (there are even ocean breezes and a waterfall fountain ouside(!),) and I can't bring myself to drink it.

In other words, wierd-smelling coffee beans is what I would expect, OP.

we get the ground dunkin donuts coffee at the supermarket - never had a problem, DH loves it - maybe the whole beans were rancid?

Nope, you're not the only one. DD's coffee always has a weird after taste to me. Give me Peet's or Starbucks or even 7-11's coffee over DD's any day.

I agree. I like Quik Trips coffee too.

Okay. The coffee was okay but not great. We don't have Dunkin Donuts shops here, but I have had their coffee before when I was out of state, and I really liked it. I bought the beans at the grocery store

This was just.... kind of so-so. Maybe I didn't make it strong enough? Anyway, I'll try a stronger brew tomorrow, and if it's still kind of icky, I'm going back to my usual brew!

I don't drink coffee, but DH does. He hates Dunkin' Donuts coffee, and swears the only good coffee he gets is at home.

The DD near my house makes the NASTIEST coffee. The one near my sister's house is a bit better...at least it's tolerable. The one near work makes the best coffee around. :goodvibes I think it really depends on which one you go to.

When ground, the beans appear lighter.

To get a more 'authentic' DD coffee taste out of your home brew - use REALLY hot water, in your machine.... thats what they told me at my DD, and it did make a difference.

Lastly - I LOVE DD coffee from the actual DD, but the at home stuff still isnt at good.

I like Chock Full o Nuts & Eight O'Clock Coffee bean!

I think DD coffee is overrated...not that good at all.

Believe it or not, I think ......................McDonalds makes a better cup of coffee now that they have switched to a "Premium Roast."

Agreed - McD's actually has a pretty darn good cup of coffee, now.

I have their french vanilla roast and it's much lighter than the beans I grind at home. (It's pre-ground because I'm traveling.) I'm not thrilled, but on the road, there's not a lot of options. I miss my coffee place.

I am stuck on Starbucks - I can't always afford to get it at the store but I do get the bag of beans and grind them myself. All other coffee has a bitter taste to me.

Just a bit of advice

You 99% of the time wont be able to get the coffee at home to taste the same as at the dnd store.

They weigh there coffee per pot. The grinding maching is calculated 1x a day. it's not measured by 2tsp per cup etc. its weight set.

The hot water is hotter than you can ever get at home without scalding you...

Those two things, will make it so you can't duplicate it perfectly.

Personally, I drink 2-3 great ones a day (yup, 24 oz each) and have actually asked the district manager how to duplicate it becuase I cant. The above was his reasons.

I stick with maxwell house at home, and buy the good stuff at the drive thru!

I'm not a coffee drinker, but, DH is. He LOVES Dunkin. He does both, brews at home and buys from drive thru. He says there is a difference in the taste and thinks you have to use half/half. He also swears they have a secret ingredient in the cup to make the store brewed taste better:confused3 OK if you say so:rolleyes1

I love my DD coffee. I have the regular and cinnamon at home. We don't have a DD anywhere nearby and have never had it at one of the stores. If I'm out and want coffee I go to Starbucks.
