dumb river country question

I was creeped out by the innertube that was still inflated just floating in the middle of the water. I never would have imagined it to look like that now. Though it's all that can be expected, I guess I still see it like I did when I was 5 and could bury my legs in the sand in the bottom. My parents and I walked over to the entrace last summer and I was about to cry because it's so sad that it's just there. Why close something if you don't know what you're going to put there or if you don't plan on taking it down? Reminds me of a ride called 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Now known as Pooh's Playground but had been almost abandoned for years.

Hi from a fellow Marylander!
I loved, loved, loved 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea! I know it may be considered corny, but I loved it as a kid!
Keep warm...

Another Marylander here! :) I really wish they would completely refurb River Country too, seems like such a waste to just let it sit and rot. The pictures were incredible. Thanks for posting.

Did you look at those pictures? That would be one lengthy, extensive, refurb. They'd be better off tearing it all out and building something else.

I wouldn't swim in there knowing it looked like that at one point. Eeek.

We loved River Country - we were one of the last people to go there - in late August 2001 it closed for the season a couple of days after we visited and never re-opened thef following season. Huge loss - favorite memories - Goofy sliding down the main slide into the pool, the view of Cinderella's Castle from the beach and the nature walk on thelittle baordwalk alongside the Bay.

Thanks for that link Jim! Is it just me or do the buildings look pretty good for being closed for 3yrs?! The pools are another story. I was also impressed that the umbrellas were open and looked so new. Interesting!

I do miss river country....the pics are scary...just looks like a piece of my childhood rotting away

Great site. I love the section where you can see the parks during different years...so neat. Thanks for posting.

I was going to say that the buildings themselves are clearly still maintained in someway or another because they look pretty good in the pics.

The pool and water areas didn't look so great. But those firebreglass rock formations would fail in the sun & heat eventually without maintenance. That's the kind of work that makes refurb take a couple of months at BB and TL every year!

Those pictures are depressing! I loved River Country and have many fond memories of it. Modern water parks are fun, but they don't capture the same spirit of the "old swimmin' hole" with rope swings, etc. I wish Disney would find a way to re-open it or at least do something new with the site. It's too special a location to be allowed to become such an eyesore.

That gives me a better idea of where everything is in relation to River Country. I truly believe that Disney will do something with that area, the only questions are what will they do and when will they do it. I don't know why but I'm quickly becoming fascinated with River Country!

That's so sad. We never missed a day at River Country when I was little. I was talking to my husband about it this weekend - I'll have to send him this link. I don't even have that much interest in going to BB or TL - I just liked mellow RC!
