Dumb question alert! Do they provide the lanyard?

I was reading someone else's packing list and they brought lanyards. Do I need to get them or do they come with each key thingy?

For returning guests, you get a free lanyard. It's color coded based on the # of cruises you've taken (1-5 = Silver), (2-10 = Gold) and more is a Platinum/black.

You will also get a free lanyard in your stateroom if you are a DVC member regardless if it's your first or 80th cruise!

For first times, you can buy a lanyard in the giftshop or buy one ahead of time.

Personally, we never use our lanyards so it's a waste of resources for us to keep accumulating so many free lanyards.

If memory serves, they give you lanyards. Perhaps others are bringing a special lanyard from another cruise.

Do you ONLY get the DVC lanyard if you booked that cruise on points? We are DVC members but we are paying cash. Thanks

You get it whether you pay with cash or on points. We pay cash for our cruises and get the free DVC stateroom gift, magnets, lanyards and pins! If it's not in your room by the end of the first night, just go to the DVC kiosk in the atrium and let them know you didn't receive it and they'll give you one. It may only include 2 lanyards so not everyone in the family will get one.

Since this is our first time cruising, I don't have any info on lanyards from DCL, but someone from our meet page is making lanyards w/ the date and group name on it. :)

When my DW and I went on our honeymoon cruise in Nov 09, it was my DW's first cruise and she got a Disney lanyard for free. I got a silver one. We had fun with our's. When we bought pins, we placed them on the lanyard.

You only get a free lanyard if you have cruised DCL before, NOT if it's your first cruise (unless, as stated above, you are a DVC member).

Very true.

1st cruise and in concierge and they said so sorry, but not for you.

Just go to a DVC sales pitch and they give them away like candy. lol

I bought mine in the terminal while waiting to board. There was one choice and it was rather scratchy and uncomfortable. They have LOTS onboard that felt better than mine. I wish I had waited. I should be getting a new one in May though, cuz we are going on our second Disney cruise. YAY.

we did our first DCL cruise and we did not get the lanyard.. maybe in our second one we might per observations here..

Free at check in for return cruisers.
Free on board for ALL DVC members (not just booked on points)

For sale in the gift shop at terminal--very limited supply
For sale in gift shop on ship--better selection and supply

Does someone have a pic of their lanyard they can share? We would be cruising our first time, so no free lanyard for us, however we have several lanyard's at home that have been collected over time from various events etc and I'm wondering if any of the ones we have would work just fine. TIA!:cutie:

I suspect that any of your free lanyards would work provided they have a plastic envelope attached where you can slip a credit card (on the ship, it will be your KTTW card). You can even buy these envelopes at Wal-mart although the ones you get on the ship have a zip-lock kind of top and the one's a Wally's don't.

I think I have 2 at home with the plastic sleeve that can hold a ccrd size card. I wasn't sure if it was that kind or the kind that just have a clip at the end. I'll have to search for those, but either way if the DCL one's are too cute to pass up, maybe we'll check out a DCV presentation ;) Thanks for your help!

So if you pay cash for the cruise, how do they know you are a member? I don't recall seeing anywhere where you put that info. The last few times I have used points but this time I am using cash so I'd be interested to know this.pj:)

Is it based on each individual being a returner or just on a per-cabin basis?

DW & I have been on DCL before but DD has not...

Per cabin. I think the returning gift is also based on the person in the cabin with the most cruises. For instance, My daughter is silver and I am gold so the gift in the cabin will be for the gold category. pj

Correct....stateroom gift is based on the highest level CC member in the cabin.

Also, when rebooking onboard...it helps if you can split people into different cabins based on their level to get the most OBC allowed. We booked onboard for next year and I put me (platinum level) and one DD (gold level) in one cabin and hubby (platinum) and one DD (gold) in the other. This way both cabins get the $350 OBC instead of one getting the gold OBC and one getting the platinum OBC. The booking agent onboard recommended this.

The lanyards are per individual and each will get the level that they are entitled to. The cabin gift is per cabin and will get the gift for the highest level person in that cabin.
