Dumb question about self admit/main entrance passes

Hi there! I’m hoping someone can help to explain the difference between Main Entrance Pass and Self admission passes. I’d like to go to Magic Kingdom on Monday February 15th and it says that Main Entrance Passes (Spouse and Guest) are blocked out. But if the Main Entrance Pass is blocked out…don’t I use the Main Entrance Pass to get myself in? Or do I use something else that would be considered Self Admission or is it in fact, my main entrance pass? I’m so confused. I apologize if this is a dumb question, I’m a TDS employee that doesn’t live in the area so I’m not very familiar with how it works.

It's basically the Guest Passes that are blocked. You will use your MEP for Self Admission to the parks (as long as they are not marked for SA being blocked also - I think that shows up as a different color - VERY seldom is Self Admission blocked out).

And the self admission does not count against your yearly limited # of days. It is more easily understood at DL where we only show our IDs to enter on days that guests/spouses are blocked. I always wonder if I self admit with my pass, will it count as a day by mistake? We cannot view usage online, that glitch is still in place for TDS CMs.

Thank you! It looks like I should be able to get myself in on the 15th which is exactly what I want to do!

The only upcoming Self Admission block outs are MK, 25-31; EC, 31; and ST, 31. I do not know of any Self Admission block outs in 2016 (so far).

Hi everyone, I am so thankful I found this thread. I and a friend of mine (who are both TDS CMs) are traveling to WDW in early February (1-5) and we would like to self admit (there are no blockout dates during that time). This will be both of our first time self admitting ourselves and I am confused on how to actually do this. It was my understanding that we would use our company ID to self admit if we are TDS CMs, but now after reading this thread, it sounds like we still use our MEPs. If anyone could clarify this for me, I would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

WDW, you show your MEP (and ID? not sure) but at DL to self-admit you only show your ID.

I've never used my self admit, I'm retired now with the blue pass. I've only used mep. I know this has been discussed before, but still not clear have heard different answers.
If my husband who has the mep IF he uses it and signs in himself and 3 other family members I have heard from some I can self admit and then I've heard I can't. Does anyone know for sure ? I know he used his mep and got a discount at the stores, and the CM was so surprised he could get that. Is it different if you are retired?

With the newer cards I have always used my new main gate cards. So if a CM wants to go in by them self in a self admit they can just show there ID right? Or do they have to have there main gate also? And self admits never go against there allowances every year?

DL, you show ID only. At WDW, I think you show both ID and Main Entrance pass to self admit.

At WDW you only need to scan your Self Admit card. If you have it loaded on a Magic Band then you don't even have to show it. It is always necessary to carry it, along with your ID, for any problems and to also get your discounts. And no, self admits do not count against your usage.

self admit card is the main gate? or your id? It has been awhile. My husband is going to traditions tomorrow and I was just wondering if he wanted to, could he just use his id if he wanted just go in as a cast member if he wanted to or does he have to wait for his main gate? It has been years since my traditions class and I forget.

The self admit card is your main gate. He should be able to use his ID until he gets his main gate pass but he can always ask.

Thanks for this explanation! So no ID needed at WDW. Good to know.

Interesting at DL, even though they give you a one day hopper when you enter the parks, they still ask for your cast member ID every time you re-enter on that day.

You can use your ID for admission if you haven't received your MEP yet but a GR@PE (Guest Relations @ Park Entry) will be called over and do the entry. Touch-Point greeter can't do it.

Just a clarification to some of the previous posts, as we have been sort of combining Self Admission and MEP here and I thought for some newer a bit of clarification might be in order.

Starting Jan 1, 2016, Seasonal (CT) and College Program (CP) do not get a Main Entrance Pass as before but get a similar pass that is labeled "SELF ADMISSIONS PASS".

Full Time (FT) and Part Time (CR) CM's still get a Main Entrance Pass and Guest Passes.

Both an MEP and a SAP are used for "Self Admission" by the CM. SAP's do not have guest entry privileges and guest entries with the MEP have to use the Guest Passes.

So we are confused. My daughter is seasonal but never received any new pass labeled "self admissions pass". She still has her blue main gate as well as her guest passes. Her address is correct in the system but she never received anything. Does she need to request the SAP? Is her current MG invalid? Also does she still enter DLR using her ID instead?

If she is a "Seasonal" (CT) CM, she should have received an SAP shortly before Jan 1. The MEP would no longer be active. If she is local (Orlando), I would go to Celebration and get the correct pass, if not, I would call Cast Ticketing (407.934.6077 X4 - this is the last number I have for them), and see what is going on.

Funny this should come up as I just worked a Main Entrance EHH shift this morning at MK and had several issues with MEP's and spouse passes that were not working correctly. Guest Relations was nice about it but they can't really do all that much but say contact Celebration to get it sorted out.

With respect to DLR, I had always used my ID and MEP for entrance, as I was always taking in guests. My understanding (not sure if this is correct though) is that now we CT's have to use both our SAP and ID for entry and CT's do not get any Guest entries, just whatever paper tickets and comps we have. As I say, just my understanding, haven't been to DLR since all the changes took place Jan 1.
