Duggars Expecting

I saw excerpts from their wedding. They seem like a cute couple, but I am pretty sure she said she would respect and obey him as the head of the household and he said nothing of the sort, other than to make her comfortable or something like that. To each his own, but whew...they're kind of backwoodsy!!!

backwoodsy is so refreshing.

I would guess that you wouldnt have to worry about it as it would appear your beliefs are different then theirs. The 18 kids they have behave better when they are out and about then a lot of people have with only one or 2 kids.

I am happy for th Duggars. My family and I watch the show and they are a great family. Their faithful to God and their family. I think that their children are very well behaved. Much better than my three. They are always there for each other when they are in need. What more could you ask for in a family.

Their kids may behave, but have you ever read about the "blanket training" they use to get them that way?

What's the blanket training? Do tell please.

Saw the news article just about 30 minutes ago when I logged on to check my email. I knew it was a matter of time, just didn't think it would be this soon. Granted DH and I waited 7 1/2 yrs before our 1st one came along but it was not planned that way. However we enjoyed the 1st couple of years of our marriage traveling and doing things that otherwise would not have been possible when we had kids. But I guess not everyone wants the same thing.

From what I understand they sit the baby on the blanket and when the baby tries to move they scream and holler at it and hit it with a switch, do this repeatedly until baby doesn't move. Once that is accomplished they leave the room and peek around the corner and do the same thing until eventually, no matter what, the baby never leaves the blanket.

THis CANNOT be TRUE????

This is so sad:sad2::sad2: This young couple didn't even have a chance to get to know one another before they started popping out babies, and it looks like it won't stop either. In another v3 years she will be mom of 4 little kids with no help. Am I the only one her who thinks this is just wrong?

It is absolutely true. How do you think they get that many kids to toe the line?? The homeschool program they use REQUIRES this form of discipline be emplemented before you can be approved for the program.

Seriously! :confused3 That is so wrong.. A baby cannot learn right from wrong at that early stage.. This family is a bit strange in my opinion.... I am not against having many kids but they are just strange... I don't watch their show and will not.

That sounds horrible. I'm sure the Duggars don't do that!!!!

I must admit, I was surprised that Josh and Anna weren't pregnant sooner. They seemed determined not to use BC, so I figured it would happen right away.

They freely admit that they do -

"Child Training Tip-With 6 little boys age 5 and under we’ve enjoyed much more peace, harmony, & order in our home since a friend shared with us about ‘blanket time’. We began this training four years ago, when our second set of twins were 17 months old. They started learning self-control & obedience by sitting quietly on a blanket playing with a few toys. The key words are ‘sit’ & ‘quiet’! At first, we practiced 5 minutes, 2-3 times a day, & worked up to 10-20 minutes at a time. This one tip has changed the atmosphere of our home tremendously. We don’t have little ones tearing up the house as often & getting into things while we are busy. Occasionally, we still have those moments, but over all the little ones are content. This frees us to be able to accomplish more in our day! We have since, transferred this training to other areas, such as sitting during worship services, shopping trips & when visiting with company…etc. It’s teaching them responsibility (knowing & doing what both God & others are expecting of them) at an early age. "

It is. I couldn't believe it either. I looked it up and found a lot of websites that not only confirm it but support it. It completely changed my perception of them.

(example - http://www.ffministry.org/blanket_training.htm)

Can you post on the website where it says the Duggars use this? I just looked all over their website and I can't see it. I know others who use the same home study that they use, and they don't use the blanket method.

Thanks.

Wow. I don't think that's right for them to do that. I always wondered how they kept the children so well behaved!

Thanks.

I'm looking again - I pulled it from an old discussion thread that had quoted much of it (I googled the quotes too, to make sure it wasn't just made up and I found the same text quoted in several places and listing the same source so I believe it's accurate). It looks like blanket training was taken off their website, which doesn't surprise me. It's very controversial, obviously.

It looks like most of the website stuff just points to the book now (can't say that I blame them - good way to make money). Anyway, here's a link from Gentle Christian Mothers which confirms that in the book she talks about blanket training - (lower down it also confirms that they used to have blanket training information on their website)
