Duggar Disturbing photo?

I think the Duggars are insane. The family pictures at the memorial with everyone smiling like it's a happy occasion freaked me out more than the fetus pictures. I also understand that everyone grieves in differing ways and while I find it weird to have a memorial for a miscarriage, they obviously felt the need for one. The fact that they had fetus pictures does not make it any more disturbing to me than it already is.

Me too, and I think it is becuase the ends of the feet are black. They are either showing evinence of poor blood supply in utero or the beginnings of necrosis. Either way, it really bothered me.

I thought the black was from taking footprints (ink). :) So there may be a less-horrifying reason for the black. ;)

They would leave the ink there in these "formal" pictures?

I don't know. It's the Duggars ~ who knows why they do anything?

I may be wrong about the reason for the black feet, that is just the first thing I thought of when I saw them.

I did not find the picture of the precious babies feet disturbing.

I did however find it disturbing that there was a Group photo of the entire family all smiles and appearing joyous at being photographed...yet again
It wasnt a party :sad1:

To be honest, I really don't understand this particular criticism. My grandma passed away earlier this year, and while we were all grieving her death, we had many moments of catching up with family and laughing at happy memories. I'm sure there are many moments where a picture would've shown us smiling and happy looking. It doesn't mean we didn't cry or feel horribly sad during those days too.

Plus, as Christians, the Duggars believe that Jubilee is in heaven and at perfect peace and perfectly whole with the Lord. To them that part is reason for celebration, even if they still wish she could've lived here with them for years and years.

Exactly -- I don't even know where to start to describe how much I hate this family & everything they stand for.
If I've learned anything from this thread it's that lots of people feel as you do.

I have to say that I am pretty ignorant on all things Duggar. Here's what I know: Lots of kids. All kids have first name starting in J. Grandkids all start with M, so far. Kids are well behaved and kind to one another. They are conservative Christian, but not anti-birth control, surprisingly. Father is a Republican and served a term in the Arkansas House of Representatives.

I've seen one episode of the series. Dad and several sons were preparing a building to open a second car lot location. I didn't find anything to dislike about the family, I just wasn't interested enough to seek out more episodes. It's one of those shows that you leave on the TV if it happens to come on, but don't actually actively watch.

Try as I might, I can't work up even modest dislike for the family, more less hate.

Um, yes they are anti-birth control. They are part of a movement called Quiverfull, which takes its name from Psalm 127, which says children are the "arrows" in a man's quiver. They teach that not only should one avoid birth control, one should have as many children as possible because they are blessings from the Lord.

They also believe birth control was responsible for Michelle's earlier miscarriage (the one she had right after her oldest). They weren't Quiverfull at the time, and she was on the pill, but got pregnant anyway. They blame that miscarriage on her having been on the pill, and took it as a sign from God that he should be directing their fertility or whatever and that birth control is bad.

I think some people put too much energy into how they feel about this family.

Turn off the TV, or change the channel.

Thanks for correcting me. My statement was based on the fact that they had in fact used birth control early in their marriage. The news that they are now anti as they blame it (perhaps erroneously) for an early abortion is not surprising, nor does it change my opinion of the family.

That's fine, wasn't trying to change your opinion, just mentioning additional info. This and other reasons, which you likely wouldn't have seen from that single episode, are why many people have a problem with this family. Basically they embrace and promote a "subservient women" image of Christianity that many do not agree with. Like them, dislike them, or indifferent, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

I hate that the Duggars make women look like all they are good for is reproduction. Good for them, have all the kids you want and I'm sorry they lost one but I think they set women back 100 years

Why do people say this when a woman actually makes a choice?

The women's movement wasn't about making only those choices that those who fought for the movement agree with.

If it sets the movement back, that is the fault of the movement for not educating women that being all they can be does in fact include being someone like Michelle Duggar. If we are teaching girls that they can ONLY become an astrophysicist, that doesn't do anything for the movement as it still limits choices as well.

The statement is ridiculous as Michelle is not forcing you to do anything (if you happen to be female) by the choices that she makes.

The Duggars are followers of Jesus Christ and they strive to live by the Bible.

The Bible says....Ecc 7:1 A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth.

They are happy because they believe GOD has purpose for their lives, and for their late sibling.

I saw the pictures, and I don't see a problem with it. In fact, I thought that it was sweet.

I do see a problem with people presuming to know the "right" way to grieve.

My brother's baby was born that early and they couldn't wash the ink off because the skin was too delicate and would have torn.

That's what I was going to say.

I think some people put too much energy into how they feel about this family.

It's called an "opinion". Obviously you are very familar with the concept. Never said I was being forced to do anything nor did I mention any movement

^^^^ what she said :thumbsup2

I saw the picture and it was NOT disturbing. It is life. I am so sorry that poor little baby didn't get to live. I truly hope the Duggers stop trying to have children now. Maybe they will see this as a message.

Michelle made a choice. What they're advocating for everyone else in the world, and enacting with their female offspring, is not choice.

I didn't read all of this because it really upsets me.

At least where I live, a baby born or who died at 20 weeks in classified as a stillbirth not as a miscarriage. Although now that I've typed that, I kind of think her baby died before 20 weeks, but it wasn't discovered until then.

Anyway, I think that it's fine to take pictures of the baby. Having been in a similar situation and having friends who lost babies in the second trimester, those pictures are all they have of the baby. I do question publicizing them...doesn't it seem a little exploitative or something?

So I just read that they had a memorial for the baby that Michelle Duggar miscarried and they had a pamphlet or a picture printed up with a picture of the baby's feet and a quote about how even the smallest feet can make an imprint. I saw the picture but I won't post it here because I don't want to offend anyone. Anyone else think this is disturbing? :confused3 for some reason it just made me go  I understand having a memorial, but the picture was a little too much in my opinion. I'm sure others will differ.

I feel like you do what you need to do to grieve.
Would the picture be upsetting to me yes but if it helped the family that is what's important.

With each one of our miscarriages we did different things.
