Duffy the Disney Bear 9/19

This bear is the very same one they have been selling, at least at WDW for a few years now. I have a grey one. He was called the Disney Bear and I believe the back story is that he was Mickey's bear and when Mickey was in the Parks and feeling alone, Tinkerbell made the bear come alive when Mickey hugged him. Don't remember everything else the tag said. My bear also has the Mickey face and paws. I bought two--one as a gift, and one to keep in case there is a grandchild in my life in the next few years. It is a very, very soft cuddly bear. I fell in love with him with I picked him up and felt his squishiness.

But I find it so strange that they have reinvented this bear and given him a different story. And I don't think I will be needing to buy another, but I would love to have my picture taken with him at the meet and greet. If the character is as soft as the plush ones, I might not ever let go. :woohoo:

EXACTLY!

Not only is it strange, but it seems like a wasted effort. Oh, and annoying with it being unrelentingly shoved in our faces, for a 2nd time, sigh.

Disney: Look! Mickey's Magical Teddy bear in a variety of pastel colors!

U.S. Guests: Oh, look, a teddy bear with a mickey mouse face, (lackluster response)

fast forward 8 years

Disney to U.S. Guests : LOOK!!!! LOOK!!!!! DISNEY DUFFY BEAR!!!! TDS Loves him and carries him all over TDS LOVES HIM AND CARRIES HIM ALL OVER TDS, AND TAKES PICTURES OF HIM AND BUYS CLOTHES FOR HIM! YOU"LL LOVE HIM TOO, HE HAS A NAME NOW DISNEY DUFFY BEAR, SEE!!!!!!! HE"S REAL POPULAR IN TDS, HE'S NOT THE SAME BEAR AS BEFORE. YOU WILL LOVE HIM BECAUSE HE HAS A DIFFERENT STORY NOW! MINNIE MADE HIM FOR MICKEY!!! YOU"LL LOVE HIM. AP EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW- 3 SIZES OF DUFFY! AND A MEET AND GREET CHARACTER. HE'S SO CUTE AND CUDDLY and you WILL LOVE HIM TOO!!! whether you want to or not. SEE!!! SEE!!!!! SEEEEE!!!!!!! YOU WILL BUY HIM. HE HAS VINYLMATIONS COMING TOO!! SEEEEE!!!!! SEEEEEEEEE!!!

US Guests: uh, that's that same bear you introduced a decade ago (lacking interest in Disney's convoluted forced marketing push for the 8 year old bear) . . . uh, do you have any Lotso Teddy Bears? Where's the Country Bear Jamboree?

US Guests to Disney: uh, Did you say something about carrying Duff Beer?????

I have a book I bought a book at DTD a few years ago maybe 2006? It looks like a little golden book, but it was distributed by Disney theme park merchandise and copyrighted 2005. I bought it as a souvenir and loved the story, titled "the story of Disney Bear, a Day at the Magic Kingdom"

As a pp mentioned, it is a story about Mickey taking his old teddy bear (not dressed as a sailor) out at night at the MK. He makes a wish that he had someone to play with (since his friends were all asleep) and tink makes Disney Bear come alive. When Mickey hugged him, the mickey shape appears on his face and paws. They rides all the rides, and then go to bed after the fireworks. It's a cute story, and I actually got disney bear pins for me and my little dd, (her favorite friend is a pluffie she calls "baby bear" that looks similar to disney bear. anyway, I never knew that he had a name or was even an item to purchase, until now!

I am curious to see if they will be at WDW.
I am just beginning to plan our very first DLR trip (my dh was there 32 years ago, lol) but we've been to WDW a lot!

It's a re-incarnation of sorts of The Disney Bear you have. Slight change in the story and new name, Duffy the Disney Bear. He will be at WDW as well as DLR.

One of the CMs at the Duffy event at DLR called Disney Bear "Duffy's little cousin" LOL. Although I do not believe that Disney is marketing them that way. I think she was just playing around with my DS.

We have both Duffy and the Disney Bear (having just picked up Duffy at the AP event and two Disney Bears last month). They are a bit different. Duffy is about 2 inches taller and has more curly fur.

I know Duffy will be at both Epcot and DCA starting in October. But I don't know if they are pulling the Disney Bear from the stores because of it (because they are so similar).

yes, they have stopped selling the disney bear on disneystore.com, i don't know about the parks yet.

i've never seen the disney bear but im totally excited for duffy especially now that he's a meet and greet character and i like that they are having him be an active part in California Adventure, like having little spots where you can take pictures with your duffy in different backgorund and i think its totally cute:cutie:

Our D has the Disney Bear. His fur is darker in color but other than that, he looks like the Duffy Bear. The bear is VERY durable, she's had it about 5 years or so. He's really cute, very soft.
Duffy will be joining our family--he's cute and I love the salior suit....but I don't think he will have a wardrobe of clothes.

Yeah, I like the Halloween and Christmas costumes too! I also must have the Scottish outfit since my family is from Scotland. I am loving this bear more everyday! So glad it will be available on Oct 14, we arrive on the 19th! YAY! I'll have to buy two, one for my DS4 and one for me.
