I know that many have talked about that the average that dues have gone up is 3% each year but do you really think that dues will continue to increase that percent over the life of the resort that you are staying in? I know that inflation is a huge factor and everything gets more expensive as time goes on... But if you look at a 3% increase every year by the time you get to your last year of AKV you are paying over $19 a point for dues that year which is a huge amount! In your mind wouldn't that seem to much to be paying for something at that time. Obviously at those last couple of years your membership isn't going to be worth selling b/c you will have very little time left. Do you think that the dues will eventually reach a cap?

Yes, but what would you be earning over the life of the contract?

Yeah, not everyone's pay is going to increase 3% every year to make up for the difference. My husband works for a small business and raises aren't common but he loves his job (most of the time :-) anyways) and I run my own photography business. Do we have gobs of money? No. Will we ever? Probably not. We have very little debt and can do most things that we want I guess it just seems weird to think about now that far in the future. If you go back that many years in the past pay and prices have increased a lot..... hmmm....

$19 per point seems like a lot now but the value of $19 in the future should buy as much as it does currently. Only time will tell.:cool1::banana:

Doesn't that make you sick to your stomach though a little bit? I know it isn't going to be an abrupt change and that is changing slowly over time.... Oh the things we do for the love of Disney and our kids. :)

Reading the sales literature that just arrived for Hawai'i...where it says act now before the price increase raises the cost per point to $120!!! When we purchased, I think it was $74 per point. So do I think that $19 in dues is possible...unfortunately yes. As someone else mentioned, will $19 amount to anything of significance? i.e. if a can of soda from a vending machine is $20, then will $19 / pt in dues be overbearing?

Right now it seems like much but (I'm a geek) and did some math.

Say you have 160 points at 19/point in dues. That's $3,040 for the year. Now lets say that gets you a week in deluxe accomodations $3,040 divided by 7 would be about $435 a night.

In the future can you imagine deluxe rooms costing this much - DEFINATELY. Look at prices now per night in the $300s and up. By then a deluxe room could cost over $1,000 per night.

It's all good :hippie:

47 years ago, the average price of a new home was about $22,000, the average price of a new car was about $4000, the average cost of a year in college both room and board was about $1,500, and the average annual income of working Americans was about $9,000.

In 47 years if those dues are only $19 a point, many will probably think it is a bargain at the time.

I see what everyone is saying. When I first thought about it, I was like Holy Cow! But then I kept comparing it in 'time lines' and yeah it definitely makes sense. I told me husband about it and thought for sure he would just freak out but his response was... by that time, we probably won't be paying for the dues anymore our kids will. lol ;-)

WOW!
Somebody from Jackson, MI!!!
Hello there!

Just to compare, when I bought in at BWV in 1999, dues were around $4.00, now they are over $5.00. My monthly payment has gone from about $88 to $111. 26% increase but do I really notice it? No.

I am hoping it will be one of those things we talk about when we are older like our parents do now. We will be saying remember when our dues were only this amount and now they are this much more. Like when my inlaws talk about staying at the Poly for $25 a night and they thought that was expensive!!

Well technically little town next to Jackson but close enough ;) You from around here too! That would be awesome!!

HAHA!!
Does your town starts with a P?
You blink while you're driving and you'll miss it? :rotfl:
If it does, we live in the same one...
