We're planning on spending one evening at Downtown Disney. Has anyone had good experiences at restaurants there dealing with food allergies? I know that Captain Jacks is on the dining plan, so it must be run by Disney, but it doesn't get very good reviews so I'm a little leery of it.

I'd really appreciate if anyone has good (or bad) experiences to share. My son is PN and TN allergic.
Thanks!

i have quite severe allergies and all the disney staff were amazing, i would especially recommend boma - at was amazing and the food stunning!
we only ate at the EoS at dtd, which was good, but not haute cuisine!

My daughter has a dairy allergy and Planet Hollywood was a no-go for her. Maybe it was an off night, but there was nothing they could give her from the kids' menu, which was a sticking point since we were on the dining plan. We have never had a problem at any other WDW dining location in all our 5 visits, but they didn't even offer a suggested alternative. Finally, I asked what she could safely eat from the adult menu. She had plain pasta with marinara sauce (if I remember correctly, this was 4 years ago) and I ate the kids' meal.

Thanks. So EofS could deal with allergies? That's good to know.

Sorry to hear about Planet Hollywood. That's the kind of thing I dread, where there isn't much of an option. The reason we vaca at Disney is to avoid that scene, and I'm worried that DTD might not have many good options.

Not all restaurants on the Dining Plan are run by Disney including the restaurants in Morocco, Mexico, and Chefs de France, Yak and Yeti and the food sites at Coronado Springs to name a few.

Earl of sandwich is NOT good for wheat/gluten allergies- it's ALL sandwiches
Some salads but the cross contact worries me- they are prolly good for dairy as you can get sammies w/o cheese

rain forest was able to give me a burger w/o a bun and a salad.
the fries are not fried away from chicken tenders

Wolfgang pucks is kinda ehh about allergies - like they were bothered when i asked-I can get a salad there but there is LOTS of wheat roaming around and worry again about cross contact

I have never eaten at Capt Jacks-i have eaten at Fultons $$$ and not worth it IMO- I was very bothersome to the waiter as he said rolling his eyes:(

we have ressies for July at T rex and they said they can do same as rain forest for wheat/ gluten allergies- But DD can eat all except some dairy- she can eat yoghurt and soem cheese but don't give her milk..
DTD is Not my fav place to eat with my food allergies. although I can always get something at the McDonalds:)

My younger DS has peanut/TN allergies and we've eaten at House of Blues, McDonalds, and Earl of Sandwich with no problems. He has eaten once at a RFC but not the one at DtD. If we're on the dining plan we've just done Earl of Sandwich for lunch - none of the DDP restaurants there look at interesting to me personally. I enjoy House of Blues though!

We'd like to try TRex this summer...

Two of my kids have severe PN and TN allergies, among others. We had absolutely no problems at Raglan Road. Food is great and the atmosphere is fun. :thumbsup2

We ate at the House of Blues in Oct with my son who is nut and egg allergic and they were outstanding. The chef was very helpful and definately knew what he was talking about. My son loved his meal- we did too- and we had no problems!

We have had a few issues at Rain Forest Cafe and T-Rex has the same owner so we are skipping there too. They really didn't know what was in most of the foods it seemed. I ended up with a bunless burger and fries but had a mild reaction from some type of cross contam I'm guessing. I think the fryers are used for everything. I've done fine at Wolfgang Puck Express but I get the same chicken every time and the only safe dessert was the creme brulee.

we did raglan road too - food was stunning!
my allergies is not nut based so not really qualified to respond on that level, however they were very good with my allergies, and provided me with a very knowledgable chef who came and discussed my options, he also dealt very well with my asd son, who wanted exactly the same as mommy!
he came out at the end of the meal to check everything was ok, a very nice place to eat indeed!

What type of chicken did you order from Wolfgang Puck Express? I don't think I'll even attempt RFC or T-R. I'm susceptible to cross-contamination when I eat out here at home - that's the last thing that I need while at the World.

Can you eat the fries at McDonalds at DTD? When we last visited DTD in 2004, I stayed away from McD's because at home, I wind up sick 50% of the time after eating there (cross-contamination issues).

no, I don't eat the fries :) They are NOT guten free at all
I can eat a garden salad with no problems so far
I can eat the fruit and yog parfait the granola is gluten free
I am VERY CLEAR when speaking to a server- VERY CLEAR- in saying that I have allergies and would like to speak to a mgr.
I explain that I have these allergies and I need to make sure there is NO cross contact and i haven't had any problems so far
I am limited to salads and the F&Y - breakfast is ok- i can get the big breakfast platter - tell them NO bread and they do ok-
at least it is food while everyone else eats:)

I don't think the granola from McDonald's is gluten free...the ingredients listed on their website include oats and malt. I would stick to a salad at McDonald's.

I am allergic to wheat and gluten- I don't have celiac so oats do not seem to be a problem with me-I have eaten oatmeal and as long as it is natural oatmeal I have no issues- packaged flavored oatmeal is a no go for me.
I guess everyone has different levels of what affects them. In MY case the little bit of malt and oats in the granola has not bothered me. I can eat pasta/ bread/ and be sick for days. Everyone has to know what affects them:) :) But if it has malt then i am wrong and it is NOT gluten free:(

I can't drink a glass of milk - I will be sick for days again-but I can eat yoghurt with little issue.

I will also echo the avoid Planet Hollywood. I had real problems there getting information (my food allergy is peppers, the vegetable, not the spice) and in the end, I still ended up reacting to something. And on top of that, my husband's fish was brought to him raw, and it was not meant to be sushi. Even the waiter was grossed out. So avoid Planet Hollywood! I will say though that everywhere Disney-run has been fabulous!

I get the rotiss chicken with no sauce. There are several spices on the skin and I don't eat the skin but have eaten this dish numerous times with no problems.
