He just had his both toes operated on, July 9 and is just recovering from that and now this. He is so anxious to get back to Kung Fu. They are 4 impacted teeth, and he thinks he will be back on the following Monday. The doctor says it may be possible. Things must have changed A LOT, because when I was 17 and had mine out I was in bed for 8 days, square- faced!

Monday may be possible but I'd say Tuesday or Wednesday is more likely. I had 4 impacted ones removed as well. It was way worse than having a c-section. (Don't tell your son that. lol)

Had mine out on a friday and was good to go on monday. No problems for me.

I had 2 impacted removed on a Friday morning and was back to work on Monday. I was uncomfortable over the weekend but not bedridden. Dealing with the side effects of the pain medication was worse than the actual pain itself so after the 1st day I stuck with Advil.

Hope all goes well with your DS. Have lots of ice pops and other cold/soft things on hand - it helps alot.

My DS, 17, just had all 4 out last week and took about 4-5 days till he stopped complaining if he bit on hard foods/ needing motrin. He did use the vicodin up the dentist gave him over the first 2-3 days. It helped a lot.

He is fine now and back to eating his beloved salads.

I had mine out on a Friday morning and was back at school on Tuesday.

the swelling was gone...but I still had some bruising that was visible..so just tell him to be prepared that he MIGHT look like he got his blocked knocked off for a few days. (everyone is different though...I bruise like a peach)

I was out for 6 days, but I am a huge wimp. I couldn't eat hardly anything due to the pain and then trying to take the pain meds just made me throw up because I didn't have anything in my system.

My DBF got 2 impacted taken out last week and it took him 5 days to recover, it is still sore for him but he is eating better.

I had one tooth out just on Monday. Today is Wednesday, and it really doesn't hurt at all.

I only used a few 600 mg Motrins as well.

The soft diet stinks though! And yes, I was not knocked out, only did dental shots... it hurt worse than childbirth!

I had all 4 of mine pulled last Halloween (in the morning) and I went out for dinner that night and out with friends the next day. None were impacted though, but I only had local anesthetic. I was afraid to be put under. I'm always sure that I'm never going to wake up again...or I'll wake up while they're pulling! It was a piece of cake. Sorry, I know you didn't ask for my life story... ;)

My DS just had all four of his impacted wisdom teeth taken out and the 2 on the lower jaw were sideways. It only took the oral surgeon 35 minutes. DS had IV sedation and got percocet for the pain afterwards. He did really well. He was in pain the first day and into the second but if he kept up with the medication, he was comfortable. He keep frozen bags of peas on his face off and on for the first day. He had some swelling but nothing bad. It is important to keep well hydrated. After 2 days, he just took tylenol. He had the surgery on a Friday and by Monday was back to his summer job. He ate soft foods for several days. He had the stitches out this past Monday ( 10 days after the surgery) and is eating anything he wants.

I had mine dug out at 3p and was on phone for short convo at 7 that night, out horse back riding next morning. I was more misible getting my braces on than my wisdom teeth dug out. I never took any pain meds.

Had 5 impacted removed, extra wisdom. Fine that day to walk around. Next morning up and raring to go. DH was the same way when he had 4 removed.

I had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth pulled at once and I would NEVER EVER recommend anyone have them al done at one time!! I had it done in the hospital since I would not let them put me out in a dentist office, just didn't trust that. I was put under and they took all four out and I was in pain for days, I couldn't open my mouth normally for 2 months, the first week just enough to get a straw in and drink my meals! I had a single tooth plled dunring a lunch break at work and I was back to work within the hour, but never would I do four at the same time again. I was on some really good pain meds after it though!

I think everyone is different. I was out shopping 24 hours later but I know other people that have taken longer.

I had all four out at once, mine were so impacted I was out for two hours! I was groggy and sore the first day, tired and sore the second, and by the third I was just sore. Make sure he eats SOMETHING the first day, otherwise his muscles may seize like aprilgail's did- nothing too hot or cold though. And definitely do the salt-water rinses, not only does it help to get rid of that nasty taste but it helps to prevent infection.

I had mine taken out when I was 17. I was operated in the day surgery unit at the hospital and the the dentist office. I has it done on a Thursday and was back to school on Monday.

Keep ice on them for first couple of day to reduce swelling

I was put to sleep and had all four removed in 2000. I still have a part of my lower mouth frozen.

I don't think I am the 'norm' ( In many ways ;) ) ..But I was black and blue for a week and a half...I looked like I was impersonating a squirrel...It was simply awful.

But I also believe my teeth were impacted very much and I left it too long prior to removing them, I should have removed them when I was 18...all I can say is that I wish for the best for your son.

I am sure he will have a quick recovery...he is very young, so they should not be very impacted..like mine were when I removed them.

I will think good thoughts for him:):)

Let us know how it goes..

Thanks everyone!
I think I'm a lot more nervous than he is. I'm such a worrywart:rolleyes:

i had 4 impacted removed this past september (i was 25).

i had "twilight" (IV sedation).

the first day i was pretty dead. i took percocet and just slept a lot. when i was not sleeping, i had frozen veggie bags :p on my cheeks. icing is important to minimize bruising. i ate pudding and lukewarm soup.

the second day i took more percocet, but i really couldn't do much but sleep and watch videos.

by the third day i decided to stop taking the percocet b/c it made me sick.

i could have gone out on the fourth day, but i still was feeling pretty bad.

i went to work on the fifth day. still feeling bad, but i could function.

i didn't eat solid food for more than a week. it was horrible!

of course then i got dry socket and an infection, which extended my total recovery time to a month and a half.

I had an upper one taken out several years ago (didn't get put out) and it slid right out -- back to normal right away. Had remaining 3 taken out last year and took a couple of days to be fully functional. Since first one was so easy I opted not to be put out 2nd time-- BIG mistake! Entire thing was horrible :(. They had trouble getting the bottom ones out and it took a long, long time. I can still hear the crunching bone sound (shudder).
