alex has had 2 surgeries since birth; his eye crossed first, then later started to wander out. lots of patching it for last couple of years and at last check-up, six months ago, all appeared well.

at todays' screening, they checked his vision and he failed 3 areas having to do with his eyes-muscle balance, stereopsis (depth perception) and acuity (i'm not sure on this once-distance perhaps?). they said that vision in his right eye is 20/50. now that we think about the depth perception especially, we have noticed some 'doppiness'; falling because he missed a step, knocking over a glass by reaching for it, etc.

i'm absolutely heartbroken over this, the thought that my little guy is having problems seeing correctly. i'm even more worried that it will not be able to be corrected. anyone with experience with these things? will glasses correct his vision enough for him to do normal 'boy stuff'...play ball, etc?

i made an emergency appt with his opthalmologist for next tuesday, please keep us in your thoughts and prayers! tia

Many hugs & prayers.

My dd is a preemie & preemies usually have eye problems. I've been holding my breath, but so far her eyes seem to be fine.

I hope your ds will find the solution he needs.

Hi Lisa. My best and prayers for your little Alex. I don't really know about the various things, but you sure are doing the right thing, getting with the docs early. I bet he will do great. let us know how he does.'s And try not to worry too much, I know, easier said than done.

I was told that I have very poor depth perception. Never really knew it before that but it makes sense, it really only effects a few things. I never played sports but driving is a little diffferent for me, I tend to make people mad because I need to have more space sometimes. My twin sis has a bus company and we both agree that I could never be a bus driver but it really hasn't been something that makes things more difficult.

As I get older night driving has also gotten more difficult if it's a new area. I may be someone that doesn't drive at night as I age.

I don't know about the different situations, but my older DS has worn glasses (now contacts) since he was four. He's very near-sighted, and it just broke my heart when I found out he had to wear them. But, he's done so well with them -- only broken one pair of glasses, and he has only lost a handful of contacts (he wears soft lenses). The dr. said that they let children wear contacts as early as six-years old (which surprised me!).

So, here's some dust *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* to help with all this -- I know how you feel right now.
