DS called from Heraklion, Crete!

Great to get a call from him wishing us Merry Christmas.

DS is in Europe with a friend on college break. First trip overseas for him, and he's enjoying eveyr moment. Today they are in Crete, and it sounds stunning beautiful. Can't wait to see pix. In a few days, they fly to Naxos, Greece.

He described the food they have been eating and it sounds great. Inexpensive, too. People are friendly, they feel safe. They said they see some Americans on vacation but mostly German and Japanese.

Anyone else here been to this area?

I wish I could have gone, too!. Helped him plan his vacation, and jeez, the scenery is breath-taking just from looking at the travel books we had.

He had several big memory cards, so hoping he'll take lots of pix.

While he's on Naxos, he should try and get over to Koufonissia -- I spent part of the summer there and it's beautiful! The whole Cyclades archipelago is just breathtaking. I have some pictures from Kea (another island in the same group, but much closer to Athens) here.
