We are been planning to go to wdw in just a few days for my two ds birthday8 and 5. My 5yr old (soon to be 6) has become sick over the last few weeks. He has mono but also has some unusual blood results. We have to go back for more lab tests and sould get the results from the pathologist on monday. I soooo want to be able to take him to the most magical place on earth(wdw). He keeps telling me that he is ok and has been free of a fever for 4 days now after almost 3 weeks. My question? if he is cleared to go do you have any sugections on helping to prevent him from becoming overly exhausted( which my cause him to relapse per MD) and if he is unable to go has anyone ever had any luck rescheduling a time share at the last moment. One week we own and the other week we exchanged throught a II. Everything else is still useable except our mvmcp tickets. Also some pixie dust pleasssee.

I don't have a lot of advice beyond using common sense and taking it real slow if your son is cleared to go on the trip. I would be worried about him picking up a bug when you travel... my kids often seem to come home with something when we do. But I mostly wanted to say I hope your son has a full and complete recovery... if you can't go, WDW is something to look forward to when he is!

First prayers that you son will be fine. Of course you need to go by what the DR says but a few tips if he gives you the ok:

Rent a stroller everywhere. Insist that he ride from attraction to attraction.

Carry the antibacteria stuff and wash hands alll the time.

Watch the diet. normaly at WDW we are very relaxed on what our child eats,, but this trip be sure that he get lots of good for him food, milk and lots of liquids.

Take a break every day.

Unless it's really warm, avoid the pool. You do not want him chilled when he gets out.

Take any medication he could need and a # where you can reach his DR just in case.

TRY NOT TO WORRY AND HAVE A BLAST.

I hope your son gets the green light! I agree on renting the stroller--it would really help his energy level. In the past I've never been a big supporter of vitamins, but I have lately. Besides a multi vitamin I've been taking (and giving to my kids) a vitimin C (vitimin seed, as my 4yo calls them) and I bought some zinc to take when coming down with a cold. Obviously get the ok from your dr before giving the zinc tablets to a child, but when I had my last cold I recovered so fast after taking a zinc every day (of course maybe I would have, anyway, but it was worth a try).

I have Purell wipes to use when soap and water is not available. They are not anti-bacterial (I avoid AB products), but ethyl alcohol, so hopefully do some good without causing harm. Soap and water is preferred, but it's good to have a back-up.

Make sure you eat regular meals. Doesn't have to be a big sit down meal, unless you'd normally eat them, but bring food to snack on or buy on a regular basis and limit the sweet snacks.

I hope your son is feeling better and you'll be able to make the trip.

I can only imagine your disappointment and your overwhelming concern over your son's illness !! I have had mono/Epstein Barre three times - and my DD was down with it for months when she was about 14. It is very important not to overexert yourself and to get lots of rest with this illness - so if you get the green light all of the above advice is excellent. Since you will be staying in a time share and have all the luxuries of 'home', I would spend most of my time there, resting and soaking up the Florida sunshine - maybe a few short trips into the parks and definitely make him use a stroller. I would avoid any rides that spin/go fast, etc, I remember having to lay down after just walking around the house for a bit.

If you decide to cancel, I'm sure someone would help you work things out under the conditions, knowing you have a doctor to back you up. If it becomes possible to reschedule, remind yourself how much more enjoyable the trip will be with a healthy 6 year old - and how much more fun he will have ! Unless you know you will be going back sometime, don't think I'd want to spend my 'trip of a lifetime' feeling sick or worrying about my sick boy :( .

I know you'll be the best judge of what's right for your family - sending you some pixie dust (and patience) - take good care of yourself, too - moms of sick kids need a lot of love (so they can spread it around)!! :smooth:

You will be able to go.

You will be able to go.
You will be able to go.
You will be able to go.

I don't know how long your staying so I stopped at 6. You will have a great time.
