DS will be 31 months old for our next trip. I know he will not be satisfied eating off of mommy and daddy's plate (with the DDP) because we had to keep paying out of pocket for his meals last time when he was 16 months old.

Can I just say he's three on our reservation so I can get the DDP for him? Has anybody done this? Any other ideas?

1) Sure you can lie.
2) But, then you MUST buy park admission tickets for the "3-year-old".
3) Sounds like a bad financial deal to me.
4) Cheaper to just pay OOP for the little kid.

On our 1st family trip our twins were just 3 yrs old (& on the small side)! I just wouldnt feel right about lying, WDW takes your kids ages in the ressies which may not matter but I dont know!

Going w/out the DDP calculated cheaper for the 4 of us, have you considered dropping the DDP all together, the cost OOP may be less anyways as it was for us. Good luck!

As others have said, it would be better just to purchase out of pocket. A park ticket purchase would be expensive as you need that to have the dining plan.

I would pay out of pocket for his meals. That would be much cheaper than buying a park ticket he doesn't need because he's under three. The kids meals are not that pricey.

Enjoy your trip!

They are not supposed to charege for the buffets and aycte family style meals so your not going to pay for him there. I'd pay OOP for him as you go--with the ticket price worked it you'll be better off not lying.

Sorry about the scandalous title;) DS will be 31 months old for our next trip. I know he will not be satisfied eating off of mommy and daddy's plate (with the DDP) because we had to keep paying out of pocket for his meals last time when he was 16 months old.

I am not sure you would even have to lie. I wonder if you just told them he eats a lot and you want to add him anyway, I doubt they would turn down the money.

But as others have said, if you are doing any buffets, etc....just cheaper to pay out of pocket. The amount of food you get on DDP is insane for a kid that little. I don't think my 3-4 y/o would eat that much in a day...lol

Last year, I considered putting my DS(9) on the adult plan because I was concerned he would get tired of all the kid food. He considers himself somewhat of a foodie--and to some extent, he is. I called reservations and told the CM my situation and asked if I could put him on the adult DDP, and the CM said sure, and that he would just enter him into the computer as a 10 year old. So, I did not have to lie.

Ultimately, I did not pay extra for DS to get on the adult DDP, and he was perfectly happy. We did do some buffets/family style. I did some sharing, but it was no problem.

This year he will be 10, and we currently have the DxDDP, so the "foodie" should be in foodie heaven.

Couldn't she put him on the dining plan as a 3 year old, and just save the park ticket portion for when he's old enough to actually need a park ticket?

You cannot put a child on the dining plan without having the pack ticket. It is required for the dining plan. And Disney will not put a 2 year old on the dining plan. You will do much better paying OOP. You do not pay for buffets for a 2 year old. So, the answer in my opinion is don't lie. We have 3 little one as you can see below, and we did much better paying OOP and just ordering something from the menu for them

You can simply ask.

I put my dd on the adult dining plan when she was 9. We had APs so it didn't affect our tickets, but they said that it was no problem for them to do it. Then, when she turned 10 in the parks, they actually changed her AP to an adult one without charging extra (we happened to have to re-do them that day). So if you ask, they may be perfectly willing to add a child's DDP without the ticket.

Did you happen to be staying DVC and not have to purchase tickets as part of the package? If so, that would be why tickets weren't an issue. Just curious.

Why do you have to lie. Just order him a kids meal and pay oop.

We did that many times for our grandaughter, when she was only two.
You can purchase a meal for a child under three, no problem.

Yes you can lie.

You could also set a good example.

I speak from experience...that yes you can say that the child is 3 but you will have to purchase at least a one day base ticket and NO you don't have to use during that trip. You can save it for the next year or give it as a gift if you would like.
We went in Sept. last year during free dining and my 2 year old would have never survived eating off of my plate. I didn't want the hassle of paying OOP for any meals so we added him to our dining plan. No problem.

If you are either a DVC member or are staying using DVC points, you can actually purchase the dining plan for him. I'm not sure if that applies to you but I didn't think that was made very clear here, so I just thought I would mention it. We did exactly the same thing 2 years ago when my DD was only 2 1/2. It made it much more convenient for us having her on the plan and I didn't have to worry if I wanted to eat something more exotic than what appealed to her tastes. Also, we are not big fans of buffets so that wouldn't have worked for us. But I just told them up front that I wanted her on the plan and why and they had no problem with it. They did put her on our reservation as a 3 year old for the record, but it was no big deal.

I don't think anyone should be suggesting that you are lying to get away with something when in either case, the deal works out in Disneys favor, as long as you are willing to pay.

I'm sure if you ask, they'll put him in as a 3 year old, but you'll have to buy him tickets as well, and he'll have to get the same # of days as the rest of your party.

I would just pay oop for his meals. he should eat free at any buffets/all you can eat meals, and I think the regular kids meals are $5-7 or something like that. Not nearly as bad as park tix!

Thanks for the replies. Sorry everybody. I should have clarified that I am a DVC member and I will be staying on points.
DVC members don't have to buy tickets to get the DDP. It sounds like some people have requested the dining plan for under three year olds so maybe I should try it.

No, I do not want to lie:angel: My DS eats a lot and I was thinking $9.99 per day would be more cost effective than paying OOP. We prefer not to eat at buffets so that won't help us.

I dont see what the problem is just pay for the meal plan. You lucked out not having to buy tickets. We had to book mostly buffets last time due to similar problems our son was 35 months and it would have cost alot to buy tickets and the meal plan so we booked mostly buffets or family style meals. In the end it was cheaper than paying for tickets and the meal plan.
