Dry cough?

A few weeks ago I had started with some post nasal drip. Once that cleared up, it seemed that I started with a dry cough and also clearing my throat ALL THE TIME. It's just not going away. I've tried taking some cough medicine that was prescribed to me last year but that doesn't seem to help. The thing is (and I don't mean to be gross or anything) but there doesn't seem to be anything to cough up.

Anyone know what this could be? Allergies maybe?

I have allergies to tree pollen and mold. Your symptoms are very similar to mine. I take over the counter Allegra each day. I would suggest seeing an Allergist. Good luck!

My son had similar symptoms and it turned out to be a sinus infection. Doesn't mean that is the case for you but it could be something to check out if your cough does not get better.

I hate to point this out but I think that stuff expires

Sounds like my usual sinus infection. You NEED antibiotics (aka dr) to help

Not to sound stupid or anything, but even if my nose isn't stuffy? I just never heard of a cough as a sign of a sinus infection. Learn something new every day.

Could be... Could be allergies too. My infections always start as sore throat/drip

Both times I've gotten a non productive cough, I got/had pneumonia. Not saying you have pneumonia but I do know that a persistant dry cough is a symptom. You should probably get checked out, just in case. Blood pressure meds often cause a dry cough as well. I've had cough with a sinus infection but it waas always productive.

First my son had it for 5 weeks then I caught it and went to the dr and she gave me an antibiotic because she was unclear if it was in my lungs the antibiotic did not work then my husband got it and the dr sent him for a chest xray and it was not in his lungs either. It is a virus and the dr said that it manifests just a little differently in each person. I do not know if this is what you are talking about but it sounds pretty similar. I coughed all the time! I still have the cough but it is not as bad and it is going on 6 weeks. The dr said it was not allergies. EVERYONE I know has had it and it just never goes away!

Bronchitis maybe?

That often starts a few days after having an upper respiratory infection and a dry hacking cough is a common symptom.

That nastiness is sooo annoying and it can hang on for weeks!

Post nasal drip and allergies get blamed for chronic cough.

Are you on any medications?

There are some that cause a cough. (Lisinopril and such)

Also if you have GERD (reflux) that can be an issue as well.

But sounds more like allergies.

See a doctor.
