Can anyone tell me about the drops on SM? We know about the big one, but what would you compare the smaller ones to-POTC, Maelstrom?

The first small drop is definately on par with POTC. The second drop is a little faster, but the weightless sensation in your stomach is about the same. The second drop is pretty dark, so that adds a little to the fear factor, but it's not much more intense than the first drop (which is well illuminated).

I agree with the above posters, its similar to the drop on POTC.

I thought I read somewhere (allears, probably) that the big drop on Splash is the same height at POTC, but that POTC has an angle that is less steep, so it does not feel the same as the Splash drop.

I'd say it's similar, but I do think the drops on Splash are a little more intense.

MY son LOVED IT!!!!!

At the time he was 4.......:scared1:

I held onto him with everything I had, I think it scared me more then him....
I love the picture that was taken on the way donwn, that id myFAV of them all.......:thumbsup2

Honestly, the second drop, in the dark, bothered me more than the big drop. Not being able to see what is coming is worse than knowing what you are in for!

The drops are the best part of the ride! Also the big one is over so fast, you will be laughing at the bottom when it's overwith. It looks way worst than it really is.

I can tell you all about the drops at Splash Mountain:

Drop #1: Small drop, similar to POTC, but you can get wet here. This drop is in the daylight.

Drop #2: Medium-length drop. This one is in the dark & it is like a roller-coaster. You go way down, then back up some, then back down a little. You may catch a little 'air' on this one.

Drop #3: A very small drop, similar to #1, except it's in the dark.

and finally:

Drop #4: THE BIG ONE :scared1: . This is the one that everyone sees from the outside. You get great views of the castle & the park right before you start down, then it's over in a couple of seconds.

Whatever you do, do not miss this attraction. It is so much more than a log ride. With the story, music, and theming, it has to be (IMHO) one of the best attractions in all of WDW.

I am a roller coaster WIMP and I love Splash Mountain - this and Big Thunder Mountain are our never miss rides at MK. I don't mind missing Space Mountain, that one scares me a little, but the first two mountains are awesome. As for Expedition Everest - I go on it because my daughter makes me!!

OK - I'm glad someone posted this question. I've always been afraid of the splash mtn. ride!!! I don't like drops at all!!!

However, I will ride space mtn. - and love it!! I will go on it many times in one trip............. how do they compare? I want to ride splash with DH & DS but I'm truely terrified of it. ?????????????? is that laughing I hear...... ;)

Seriously - how BAD is the big drop!

Ummm yeah, not gonna happen!!!!! ;)

A couple of months ago (at least), someone posted a link to "You Tube" which was a video of the whole SM ride. Sorry I can't privide that link but I bet you could find it on UT. I watched it and it cleared up the mystery (& therefore most of my fear) about Splash Mountain. I hope to ride it next trip.

Whatever you do, Enjoy!!

Even if you're terrified going down it lasts 2 seconds tops, so you'll only be terrified for that long before it's over. I'd say definitely try it, and if you don't like it you never have to go on again! ;)

Unfortunately for me, it's not the drop that is as scarey as the anticipation leading up to it. Just waiting for the big one would scare the crap out of me.

I read this in a guide...the big drop on Splash is 52 feet, at a 45 degree angle. The drop on POTC is 14 feet.

POTC and Splash both drop at a 45-degree angle. However, Splash Mountain's drop is 5 stories, while POTC only drops about one (the drop for POTC is actually to get underneath the railroad).

Splash has two "tracks." One is rather smooth until the big drop. The other has small "teaser" drops leading up to the big drop. Which track you get is by a stroke of luck (since they have two loading stations, I'm assuming that determines which side you "fall" down - however I do not know which is which.... I think all FPs get the teaser track, though.... but that's just my assumption).

I really had to talk myself up to ride Splash. I was really scared. The first drop is just like POTC. The second drop is scary. I couldn't enjoy the rest of the ride because I was thinking that the big drop was going to be worse that that. It was very "roller coaster." I don't even remember the third drop, so it must not have been bad. The last drop was terrible. Sure it only lasts a few seconds, but my stomach was in knots by the time I got to the bottom. I held on for dear life, it was so scary! I will not ride it again!

Can somebody give me their opinion on my following question. The last trip we went on Jan. 2-10th I really wanted to get up the courage to ride SM but then it was closed. Which now I'm glad it was because I thought it was only one drop and would have been totally unprepared. I want to ride it the next time we come back but I'm pretty scared to do it.

If I can do rides like RnRC, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and I did ToT once but I hated that one would I be fine on SM? For your information for anyone answering I really freaked out on Tot though if SM is anything like that. Like trouble breathing and shaking even after the ride was over. I mainly did it to prove to my friends who were with me that I could. I was very proud of myself at the end.
