We have 4 lines on our Tmoblie account, and really only need 3. (oldest daughter has her own cell phone company now) The line's contract won't be up until May 30, 2010. Does anyone know of any way Tmobile will release one line with out the $200 charge?
We have been loyal tmobile customers for about 8 years, you'd think that would count for something.

Depending on when you signed up, most T-Mobile contract termination fees prorate lower over the last year of the contract. I would check with customer care, it might not be $200. That being said, if you are on a family plan and the termination fee is anything over the amount of months you have left times $10, you are better off riding out the contract. The only other option I can think of is if you can find someone else to take over responsibility for the line in their own name. You get out of the contract and they save the activation fee.

We have 5 lines with Tmobile and really need 6. they told us we had to sign up for a new individual account!

add a line = $10... cheapest individual line = $40!!

It frustrates me that they cap off the "family" at 5 when we have 4 kids :headache:

I think if you are willing to show a birth certificate then they should approve more lines.

@wbutter: thanks for the comments. probably, in the end, we will just keep the line and pay the $10/month. The line's contract ends May 2010, so i will call and see if the fee to drop is less than the $10/month until then (but i doubt it). We already gave one line to a trusted friend, and i watch way too much judge judy to trust anyone else with a cell phone line in my name!

@good ol gal- that just plain stinks. they need an "big family" family plan!!

just to clarify my earlier post, if you do a change of responsibility the person you give the line to assumes liability for the line and it comes out of your name and goes into theirs so you would be off the hook. Also, when you call them find out if they have any discounts for where you work or groups you are part of such as AAA, this could easily save you more than the $10 you are paying per month for the extra line.

Good Ol Gal,

Look at splitting your plan into two seperate plans with 3 lines each. They have 2 line family plans starting at $49 so with the extra line on each you would be at $119 a month, depending on what plan you are on now might work out. The other option is to find out if one of your lines uses less the 90 minutes a month, you could move that line over to prepay and only pay $100 a year for 1000 minutes.

that's what we're doing... looking into the prepay line. We have been with Tmobile for so long (back when they were voicestream??) that our plan is no longer offered, so it would not be worth splitting it into 2 accounts.

Right now we pay $50 a month for two lines, 10 for unlimited texting, 2 for family allowance and it's a myfavs plan... then add the 40 on for the three extra lines and it's crazy cheap! that's what's frustrating to me... we have 5 lines for ~110, then I have to add one line for $45??!! :headache:
