Driving - where to stop???!

We are driving from Northwestern PA to POFQ. We have made this roadtrip before, we didn't make great time the first day and we stopped at a random hotel. This time I want to make reservations, as I have a wonderful niece that works for a hotel chain and can get us a discount (but only with a reservation). We would like to find somewhere in between, any ideas?

Well, can you narrow it down for us as to what state you want to stop? I mean- some people want to drive more hours the first day...then sleep in the next day and have a more leisurely 4 or 5 hours drive the next day. We live in NC and usually would drive straight through. Last time, we decided to not do that and stayed overnight in St. Simons, GA in a nice hotel. SO much more relaxing of a trip. (This time we're taking the train down...)

Anyhow, so it depends on the route you're taking and how far you'd like to get on your first day of travel... It looks like, according to Google maps, halfway would be somewhere in NC for you. I might be able to help then.

Sorry, I should have said that from the beginning. It is going to take us approx. 16 hrs according to bing maps, we are leaving after school gets out so we would like to drive about 5 hours the first day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you are looking for something interesting and different to do; go through DE/MD to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Gets you out of the entire DC area traffic over the Bay Bridge.

They have a wonderful new restaurant there called "One Island on the Bay", as well as an interesting gift shop.

Then proceed to Virginia Beach, VA and stay overnight. I think that would get you to about the five hour mark.

Ok, I found this really cool website, www.meetways.com. You put in your starting point and point of destination and it comes up with the middle. So our middle is Charlotte NC.

If so we like to stay at the Best Western in Statesville NC...not too far from Charlotte. Cheap, clean and great free breakfast!

I know this sounds dingy but however the good ole gps takes us which I think took us 95 before. Thanks for the suggestion!

Oh, okay! We try and avoid 95 until we get further south and love the drive down 81! The mountains are beautiful! Not sure what days you are driving but if you are going down 95 be sure to avoid rush hour!

We are driving from SE Pennsylvania and we decided on Walterboro, SC. We wanted to drive more on the first day. got a $70 rate at a decently-reviewed Best Western in Walterboro thru hotels dot com. Showed a rate of $89, and when I selected a date, it came up $70. Free Breakfast.

Sounds like a great deal. My wonderful niece works for choice hotels and the last time we booked with her family discount we had a jacuzzi suite for $40/night, and that isn't a typo! So, we are trying to figure out where we should stop and use her discount again.
