Driving to Wilderness Lodge

Is the best way to get to Wilderness Lodge to go through the Magic Kingdom entrance? Or is there a "back way" in?

I believe that would be correct. I don't remember seeing any other entrances, at least not for the public's use.

Take the boat from the WL dock to the MK. You don't want to bother driving to the MK, you'll have to park in the main lot and then take the tram to the monorail/ferry boat to the MK.

I'm not talking about going to MK from WL, I'm talking about when we arrive and check-in at WL. We stayed at Ft. Wilderness last time and there was a back way into there but we never could find it!

There is a back way in, but depending upon where you are coming from, it isn't a short cut. It is most convenient for driving coming from DTD, and OKW, etc side of WDW. We used it frequently coming from OKW to the WL, Poly and to CR.

Take the road that runs by POFQ and POR and go past those resort which will be on the right side of the road (I think this is Bonnet Creek Parkway; when that road ends, you'll turn left onto Vista Parkway and pass the golf courses, etc. This road runs into World Drive leading to CR and WL just past the parking entrance to MK, turn right on World Drive, then right onto the road leading to WL.

There used to be a security gate on Vista, but it has been closed for several years now.

This is correct. However, it is much faster to use World Drive thru the tollbooth to the main enterance to WL

Faster can depend on the time of day. If you are trying to get to WL in the morning when the park is opening up, or in the evening when there is a special event going on, then taking the back way can be faster. If you are going to WL in the afternoon, when not too many people are going through the toll gates, then World Drive is faster.

The same problems can occur that way also. The back way can be very busy with both outside and inside bus traffic as well as guests checking into FW. I have seen campers backed up onto Vista.
