Wow a lot of threads about Hilton Head! We are going to visit from April 15th through the 20th. We are driving down from New England and I think I read some old posts (of course can't find them now) about people staying closer to I-95 on a Saturday night and then having a short drive to HH on Sunday am.

What hotel recommendations do you have for places close to I-95?

TIA

Hi-
We are driving down in a couple of weeks from Long Island, NY- this will be our 4th trip down and we've always stayed in Santee, SC, not sure which exit it is but we've stayed at the Hampton Inn, fairly new and very nice; free breakfast, this year we are staying at the Country Inn and Suites, we can get a 1 BR suite for about the same price as a regular room at the Hampton Inn so we are going to try it- free breakfast as well- our kids are getting bigger now (17, 14 , 10) so we need a little more room. It is about a 2.5 - 3 hour drive from there to the HH resort.

We drove down from RI last year and ended up stopping at the Comfort Inn in Emporia Virginia on Saturday night. This was immediately off the exit (I think it was exit 8 or so, just a few miles before the NC border). The place isn't much to look at from a landscaping standpoint, but the rooms were VERY clean and very well appointed (lots of toiletries/towels etc). In addition, the continental breakfast was great. Hot and cold cereals, fruit, make your own waffles, pastries, bagels etc, all at a very good rate (I don't recall exactly what, but I have been accused of being "thrifty" in the past, and even I didn't flinch - DW seems to think it was in the mid forties or so when we went). Considering the time of year you are going, no matter where you choose, you would be well served to make reservations well in advance.

Whatever you choose, enjoy your trip! DW and I were just talking about how much we loved HHI and are trying to figure out when we will be able to go back.

Chris

Thanks so much for the input. Any other ideas? Keep them coming....

Hi, it depends on how far you think you can go on the first day.

We just made this trip from Westbrook CT in Sept and we like to stay just a few miles north of the NC/SC border in Lumberton, NC. Its about 12 hours to there from CT and about another 3 to HHI. Theres quite a large selection of hotel chains there-very easy on and off of 95.

I actually wish we were driving down to HH. My dad used to drive us from Boston suburbs to Jupiter, FL every year and we would stop in Charleston, Savannah or other places based on his whim. But alas I don't have any recent recommendations.

My husband's family used to drive from Wiconsin to the Hamptons, NY and apparently those trips bring back only negative memories.:rotfl2:

I really wanted to drive on this trip.....but he was desperate and found airfare through Charleston...so we'll be flying and staying overnight one night there.

We'll be in HH the same time frame. See you there.:wave2:

Driving from KY, we plan to stop at Asheville, NC on the way down (roughly half way), so we can visit the Biltmore. We're staying at SpringHill Suites in Asheville - that way the kids can enjoy the resort while the adults take in the Biltmore.

holiday inn express bluffton sc @ kitties crossing & 278 just a few miles from the disney :yay: resort is clean new friendly convenient and has a great breakfast. try it... youll love it :)
