Driving to Disney vs Flying

I have driven and flown several times from Tennessee and Illinois and I will NEVER drive again. I used all the tricks but to me, driving is the most boring activity in the world and the kids get so bored and they start picking on each other. Anyhow, they drove me crazy. We will definitely fly this time!!

Just wanted to add a special note about what me and DD 2 do for a TV/VCR/DVD is since I take along the laptop to put the Digital Pictures in each nite I double that as the TV/DVD also. Most newer laptops will allow you to play DVD's this also saves the space of a TV in the car. I just prop iton a blanket and we are off. 3 Nemo's,a couple Elmo's,and numerous Cliffords and we are there. :D Also, if one is available a power inverter works wonders to hook it into the cigarette lighter. I'm from Harrisburg, PA and used this on our trip to Myrtle Beach, SC a couple weeks ago and hoping it will work again on our trip to the World in Dec.

That was exactly what I was planning on doing! Getting an adapter for my laptop!!!!

Although we are thinking of buying a new car with a DVD player before we leave in Dec!

We drive. We have flown a couple of times but the cost of 5 tickets versus driving just doesn't make it. We DO NOT use movies or videos and never have. I am not trying to be smug. My kids watch lots of videos but when we are in the car, we interact. Play all the old games of I spy, travel bingo, etc. We talk, we sing with cd's or radio, etc. We generally go 75 but not always. We travel in the winter so no suggestions of stops or reservations. We stop the first night in Williamsburg, KY. The second night generally in Tifton, GA. That gets us to Orlando just right to get food, goodies, unpack, swim a little and crash for the night.

Now for the stops part. We have tried to search out stops the kids would like to make (one year DS was really into Sgt. York and we attempted to see his birthplace, etc.) It never has worked for us. We always seem to be behind the curve for time for their winter hours, or spent too much time at a rest stop playing tag, or whatever. We have just pretty much stopped 'planning' our stops. We stop every two hours and EVERYONE gets out and moves around and goes to the bathroom.

Usually, on the second day, we will make a stop at a Super Walmart or Big K-Mart to get extra nibblies and maybe a new something (green army men, new CD to sing to, whatever)

Just do what works for you and enjoy your kids.

We normally drive - I can say that I don't enjoy driving for that long of a distance but it is great to have the car. This next trip I got round trip tickets for $132 on delta - for the four of us that was $528 - I am justifing it to DH that subtract cost of possible hotel there and back and gas, wear and tear on the car etc it is worth it. We would be driving except DS's last football game of the season is on the day we planned to drive down so I didn't want to start out for a ten hour trip around 5pm. The last time we drove down we left at 1pm and got to the edge of Florida and I needed to stop for the night. This way I am there in 11/2hrs vs 10 or 11. We will try it this time but I am sure DH will want to drive down next time we go (hopefully next spring sometime). Either way good luck
