It takes us 13 hours from Memphis to WDW if I drive bout 5 mph over the highway speed limits and take only very short breaks.
I usually go Hwy 78 from Memphis to Birmingham; I-65 from Birmingham to Montgomery; Hwy 231 from Montgomery through Dothan to I-10 in Florida; I-10 East to I-75; I-75 South to Florida Turnpike; Florida Turnpike East to Hwy 27; Hwy 27 south to Hwy 192; Hwy 192 East to World Drive.
Yes. Going through Birmingham then Atlanta has taken us about 20 to 30 minutes longer. This is not much difference over such a long trip considering all the variables involved in travel. Its all interstate from Birmingham on down which may allow the driver to go faster, but can also get backed up with construction or accidents. We had heavy traffic around Atlanta and on I-75; even though there were a lot of vehicles on I-75, many people drove well above the speed limit.
There are a couple of slowdowns going the Montgomery route, especially at Troy and Dothan, but we make up for it since the overall mileage is a little shorter.
If you decide to give the I-65 route to Montgomery a try, this may save a couple of minutes: take I-85 (north?) towards Atlanta for about 7 miles, then take Hwy 271 south to get onto Hwy 231 south towards Dothan. This bypasses some heavily congested areas in Montgomery. Mappoint-Montgomery
