Hi,
We're driving to Disney and are looking for any tips for getting from CT to VA. I've heard the Tappan Zee Bridge is a better route than the GW Bridge, but beyond that I'm open to suggetions. Also,I had planned on driving this portion on a Sunday in the hopes there would be less traffic. Is this true?
Thanks.

You didn't say when you were traveling; that makes a big difference.

I live in DE and many people from DC own summer places here. They travel in Friday night and go home on Sunday. If you go any weekend in the summertime, you will hit a great deal of traffic going through DC.

My dad was from CT and we went to my grandparents twice a year. He preferred the GWB over the TappanZee, but we did both quite often.

As Missytara said, when you are on the road determines which road you should be on. If I were leaving Connecticut early on a Sunday morning in the summer, I would use the GW Bridge. I like the Merritt Parkway and the Hutchinson River Parkway to Rt.287 and then down Rt. 87 and the Major Deegan Expressway to the GW Bridge. The road is winding but I’ve had much less traffic problems going that way. Depending on where you are in Connecticut, it’ll take you 5 to 6 hours of driving to get to Washington. I’d stay right on Rt. 95. When you get to the Washington Beltway, go to the east on the Beltway – outer loop in the clockwise direction. On a Sunday midday traffic won’t be bad.
