Driving through Yellowstone in an RV

The sun setting over Monument Valley is also beautiful. My retirement starts in Southern Utah.

I remember crawling on belly to get under Mesa Arch and have a look-see of the canyon. Strangely enough, Canyonlands has low visitation numbers, even compared to Arches. I thought it was spectacular. Even Arches isn't as popular as Yellowstone, Yosemite, or Grand Canyon, although the annual visitation has topped a million in recent years.

While Mesa Arch is fine, seeing Delicate Arch was life changing. Perhaps too obvious for an avatar though.

I drove my 32.5 foot RV through no problems, well one but I'll get to it. I didn't drive bear tooth, and you have to be careful with all the braking. The one thing that happened was at Mammoth Hot Springs some German tourists in a rental RV took off my side mirror. So I would just caution you to stay away from from the peak tourist areas(in the rv) and all the rental rv's! Good luck it's an amazing trip!

Oh, I know you said summer but check your dates, road closures start earlier than you might think!

We did a family trip with my 60 something mom driving her RV and towing another vehicle. Drove thru Black Hills, Tetons, Yellowstone, and Glacier into Canada to see Banff and Jasper. Yellowstone wasn't a problem! They also have improved some of the roads since that trip.
You can stop and unhook the car and drive it separately if you feel the need. I know we did this somewhere, I don"t remember where, but it was one of the parks north of Yellowstone.
I don't remember the road from Cody to Yellowstone's East entrance being a hard drive at all.
Last year we left from the Northeast entrance, drove a short way on Beartooth Highway, then turned onto the Chief Joseph Highway and drove into Cody, and that was much more mountainous than the other way.

The best way to see Yellowstone is riding horseback through the Thorofare, and camping out. You can almost touch the stars.
