Driving through Tennessee in January

I'm now looking at Jan 1 2005 - Jan 7 2005 for our next trip to WDW. I was looking at airline prices and it just can't beat the price to drive for our family of 5. DH made a comment about driving through Tennessee in January and thought it may be a bad idea to drive if there's a snow storm. We're coming from Chicago, so we are used to driving through snow storms. But dh said it will be worse going through the mountains. I'm sure they don't have thousands of snow plows on hand to clear the roads.

Does anyone have any comments on this? Are we worrying for nothing, or is this a legitimate concern?

Sorry. I just noticed there was a Transportation board here on DIS. I'll repost this message there.

Thanks. :)

I live in Southern IL. Which is almost our own state down here. lol But about the roads. The highways and interstates will be clear. Unless it is like a major distaster storm, but we havent see one of those in about twenty years. I would think you would be okay, just expect to drive slower. If the storm hits at night and you are driving at night you may have to wait until morning to continue on. They will clear the major roadways by 7am usually.

You won't hit much in the way of mountains the way you would drive through TN. You'd becoming down through KY on I-24 right? Truthfully the only hill you might have a problem with is Monteagle and in 10 years of living here I've never seen it totally impassable.

We get very little accumulation down here when we do get snow.

I think it's doable!
