After thanksgiving dinner my DS and I will be leaving for WDW(4pm). I want to stop around lexington or Berea. She wants to drive further. My ?, how will it be driving through Daniel Boone Forest(my concern fog). Also driving through tne Pine Mountain area at night in the winter concerns me. I have driven through this area before in the early morning it was so dark, visability was non exsistent. I think it will be best to stop in Berea, get going the next day about 6am. Please tell me what you thinks,Susan

I have driven to Florida several times in December. That time of the year fog has a tendency to form at night. The air gets cold and the ground is still warm. I would say pull in at dusk. Driving in fog at night is no fun.

Also you may not get started the next morning at 6 AM if there is fog. It will take awhile to burn off. Driving in think fog in the day is no fun either. You could easily drive into a pile up. There are clowns out there who think a 70 MPH speed limit sigh means 90 in any condition.

I'll add that at Thanksgiving, it will be dark, dark, dark before 6PM. we have driven that route many times (down I-75) and it is a beautiful drive, but the fog can be a major factor, all the way into Tennessee.

Thanks, Mannig and Madge. I was sure it would be a problem driving that area at night. Now about stopping in Berea, do you think that is a good idea or should we stop before that. What time do you suggest we leave Berea. I'm one of those people who likes to plan every detail, even if they need to be changed later. Thanks, Susan

where are you coming from?

Even though it is Thanksgiving Day, I would have a hotel lined up for the night, just in case. I don't know how many people will be travelling that day, but it can't hurt to have something booked, as insurance. :)

Lexington, Berea, Richmond, London are all within a 70 mile range along I-75....decent amount of places to stay. www.roomsaver.com has coupons to print out, as well.

good luck!

Madge, We are coming from Michigan. About 6 1/2 hours(if everything goes well) from Berea KY. Susan

I'd start checking for rooms around Georgetown, Ky. It is just north of Lexington, and go from there..I don't know how many places to stay there are in Berea.

good luck!

Thanks Madge, I'll do that. Susan
