Driving question

has anyone here made the drive from OK to DW. If so, which route did you take. Where did you stop and sleep (if you didn't drive straight through). Any recommendations for the long drive? We are doing it with our two boys (6&7). Thankfully we installed a DVD player in the car, and I think that will help the hours pass

For kids 6/7 get them 8-10 books from your local library. Do not just depend on DVD player. Video realy worn kids out and they get more cranky. Books can keep them occupied. Small books can keep them occupied for 30 minutes to an hour at a time at a time. Larger books (if they can read larger books yet) can keep them occupied for hours . Plus after reading books they are fresh.

Plan to drive through 300-400 miles right after lunch, when they take nap and then break in evening. And yes, give then nice bath the night before. Make them ready before they go to bed. In morning, you get ready, and pull them out of bed, and put them on car seat and start driving. By the time they are ready for breakfast etc, you will driven 100-150 miles and ready for your first break .

My grandparents drive from Norman and meet us at Disney (I fly with the kids and my mom). They always stay in Jacksonville and do the tour there. On the return trip, they usually drive straight through to Norman.

We are in Yukon, OK. This will be our first WDW trip. We are going to leave somewhere between 9PM and 12AM drive thru Texas to Shrevport, LA and down to I-10 and across to stop around Talahassee. Then drive the rest of the way to WDW and get a hotel nearby and be ready to checkin @ 7am to hit the parks.

This won't work for you if you don't like driving through the night. I like driving through the night and since our infant sleeps throughout the night we'll get a lot of miles down before we will need to start taking breaks for his needs.

We live in Shattuck,Ok and we are going the exact same way as you, down to dallas and over through shreport and I-10....Do you happen to know how many houres the drive will be? Map quest had us going a really werid way throught Arkansa and 5 states and it was 22 houres. Thanks

I would say it really depends on how much you stop and how fast you drive.

I anticipate for us it could be as much as 24 hours since we have a infant (thus needing more stops) and I don't speed too much. I would say if it was just me who doesn't need a whole lot of stops then I bet I could do it in 21 or 22 hours.

But that's all an estimate based upon since I've never done it before.

We are currently looking at driving through New Orleans (11 hours) and staying the night there Friday night and then driving through to somewhere in the panhandle like maybe Panama City or something ans stopping there for Saturday night and on Sunday arriving at our hotel. On the way home we are thinking of going through GA, Alabama, Mississipi, TN, and AR, which according to google maps is the shortest drive ( 19 hours 51 minutes).

I figured I would ask here since so many are seasoned Disney goers whom made the drive and I could garner from their experience before making a final decision.

Thanks! I kinda figured it would take about 20-22 Houres. There is 3 Adults on our trip so we wont have to stop as much as you will. When are you guys going? We arent going until September!

Our reservations are for May 18 thru 24th. I am excited because it is the start of Star Wars Weekends. Hopefully will get a picture of DS (and me too)with Jedi Mickey
