I'm thinking about driving down to Disney for my next trip. I live in the Ottawa area. Has anyone done this drive? How long is it? In what city do you stop overnight? What route do you take and how is it driving through bigger cities?

Thanks for your help

Sandy

Hi Sandy:

We drive from Ottawa almost every year. We have done the trip several ways including driving straight through with two drivers. We left at 8:15 am. and were in Kissimmee at 11:20 a.m. the next day. I personally enjoy going straight through but DH doesn't. Therefore, we usually do the trip over two days. If we leave early (6:00 am.) we stop at about 11:00 pm in South Carolina and arrive early afternoon in Orlando. If we leave later we stop in the Richmond area. It is about 10 hours to Fredericksburbg Va. If you stop before Ricmond it makes for a long day. There are so many hotels along I-95 that we never pre-book and stop when we are tired. I like night driving so I drive late into the evening while DH and DD sleep.

Coming home is another story. We all dread driving into the cold. We leave about 8:00 am and drive to Fredricksburg VA and arrive around 11:00 pm. The second day we are home for supper.

If you have any questions send me a PM. It is nice to have another Diser in Ottawa

We have driven down almost every year for the last 7. We tend to drive straight through on the way to Orlando. Takes us 21 or 22 hours approx from Brockville. We stop long enough for gas, bathroom breaks and fast food drivethru. Coming home we leave quite early 6:00 AM or so and drive as far as Pennsylvania where we usually stop for the night and leave early again the next morning to get home in early afternoon. For years the route we took was 401 to the 1000 Islands bridge, I81 to I66 to I95 and then all the way south on I95. Last year we changed it a bit and went I81 to I 77 to I 26 to I95 and south from there. There did not seem to be as much truck traffic and was a more pleasant drive.

We drive every year and use the I81--I77--I26--!95 route that NAGLE talks of. I may try the I81--I66--17--I95 route this year as many people tell me they take this route. However, Nagle's note about the route I usually take of having less truck traffic and being more pleasant a drive may make me change my mind about changing.

Nagle: I pm'd you. Is there significantly more trucks and is distance about the same?

We found your usual route to be a MUCH more pleasant drive. I95 has been very busy the last few times we drove it. We will do the southern route next time for sure. It also was a bit quicker I believe.
