I know it's mostly a straight shot down i-75, and I'll have the gps for everything else. I've heard Georgia is a good place to stop for the night, but I was wondering where? It's a pretty big state! I'm a young woman who will likely be traveling alone or with just another lady, so a safe area is key. Thanks!

My daughter and I have stopped in Dalton,Perry,Tifton,Valdosta. I have also stayed in Cordele with my sister. Preference is either Dalton or Valdosta. If you plan to spend the night in Valdosta you will need to get an early start(3am or 4am) on departure day. Dalton area has a lot of restaurants and shopping as does Valdosta. If you choose to stay in Perry check the billboards along the freeway for some really great deals. Once you have decided where you plan to stop for the night stop at the nearest rest stop for hotel coupon booklets. I also drive straight through Atlanta and skip the bypass but always take the bypass in Macon. I also always recommend the book ALong I-75 by Dave Hunter. Each exit from Detroit to just inside Florida will have a list of Hotels, gas stations and restaurants along with some other great and fascinating info about different stops along the way. I like to get past Atlanta or macon before stopping for the night then the next morning you are at Disney before you know it. Stop at the Florida Welcome Center for info booklets and your free Florida orange juice.

I make the drive to the downriver area (where I was born and most my family is) and the drive to WDW frequently and I would say the drive is about equal to both places for us- we live right on the GA/TN line near Chattanooga. There are several hotels near the Hamilton Place Mall area right off 75 and even more options in downtown Chattanooga just a few miles off 75. You could also go about 30 minutes south to Dalton, GA. If you go there, I would stick to hotels fairly close to the interstate on the Walnut Ave. exit. We often stop in Valdosta when going to WDW but that's when driving from N. GA and if I was driving from MI would personally think it's a bit too far to wait to stop. I'll be happy to help more if I can. Good luck planning!!

Having made the drive with an RV 20+ times, my vote is for Valdosta. It's the perfect distance from WDW to wake up the next day, finish the drive and arrive at WDW ready to play!

Back in the day when we used to drive that is where we would stop too. Valdosta.
