Easy, hard anything we should know? We arrive about 3 will grab the rental car and head on over stopping at Costco and target.

Easy once you get on H1. Ask for directions from your rental car company to H1 as several are off site and it isn't quite as obvious how to turn around to get heading the correct direction (they sent us a different direction than the navigation on our phones and it was in fact, better than what the phone had us doing). After that, we used Google Maps to get us to Aulani, Costco, Target, etc. Easy.

I would anticipate some traffic if you arrive on a weekday. By the time you get bags, rent the car, and start driving you could be in the rush hour commute.

One thing you should know for your first time is as you get closer to the Ko Olina and Aulani highway exit, it feels like you could have missed the exit as the area begins to become a little more rugged and has less development. I know the first time we went, I had known about this from previous posters on this board but it still felt like we might have missed it.

Hawaiian drive real slow, and it is very offensive to use your horn. Also they do not like big signs in Hawaii, so don't expect one.

It's a pretty easy drive, just drive the speed limit. And the signage sucks, like longboard said (though I have noticed some overhead stuff going up on H1 west lately, so maybe they're getting their act together)

Yes, never heard a horn in all of our trips to Hawaii. Use your turn signals and somebody will let you in if you want to change lanes. Give them a shaka hand signal (hang loose) as a thank you out your window. The drivers are very polite and in absolutely no hurry.

it's actually against the law in honolulu to honk. http://www.staradvertiser.com/2011/...s-appropriate-times-for-drivers-to-honk-horn/

Also, one other thing that struck me when I first moved here was that if you can't safely make it through an intersection before the light changes you stop and wait until there's enough room for you to pull forward. I know that's the law everywhere, but it's never done in Massachusetts where I'm from. People just block the intersection trying to get through the light. Here, you just sit and wait so that you don't block traffic in case the light changes.

If it is 3PM on a weekday - oh boy, be ready for heavy traffic. A possible one-two hour commute in slow moving (but moving!) traffic. You are practically going down a straight line all the way down the highway but if you make a wrong turn or get off too early, don't fret, it is pretty easy to get back on the highway. Be sure to drive with Aloha! Like the other people commented, use that turn signal and people are more than happy to let you in. Almost positive there is no signage about Aulani or "Get off Here!" signs, so just know your exit. Google Maps will get you there perfectly! E Komo Mai and have fun!
