okc-dallas-houston- coast to orlando.

do you rent or drive your own??

Crazy or not? Who knows? We alternate between driving and flying, and each trip we like the other method better. Flying is great for saving the 24 hours worth of driving, but it's so nice to be able to bring our beach towel, nail clippers, a cheap case of bottled water from Sam's, particular groceries I like... etc. etc. Plus we always seem to catch a cold when we fly. We're flying for the next trip, renting a car, and then hope to drive down for a week in January '04.

I can't recall the exact mileage but it is well over 1,000 each way for us. We take turns and we really enjoy driving our particular car ('02 Turbo Beetle :D yehaaa!) :D

A little over 1200 miles for us and we drive our own van. Flying and renting a car are too pricey for our family of 5 so it's driving for us from now on.

We drive some of the time and fly some of the time. We are enjoying the driving more now days, mostly because it is kind of a pain to fly with the wheelchair. For our next trip we are swinging over to eastern Kentucky and picking up friends to take with us. We usually do one big driving day and then have fewer hours the last day. It works out fine, but does tend to encourage us to over-pack a bit because we have so much more space.

We drive from Maryland - about 850 miles each way...with our own car. We have a small tv/vcr for the back that keeps the kids entertained (thankfully our 19 mo old loves the Wiggles). Both kids are usually wonderful in the car considering the long drives we take. We do spend the night going down and coming back (usually). Sometimes coming back we will go the entire distance depending on many factors....haven't done that with the youngest one however. All in all I think flying is less stressful (if you aren't afraid to fly) but costs more. It is nice to bring the kitchen sink if you want to :smooth:

We drive 1220 miles each way! It would cost way too much for our family of six to fly and we like being able to pack as much as we want.

I'm just north of Dallas and we are driving in late September, haven't done that trip since the mid 80's but due to high airfare from DFW driving is more economical.

Question: you go from Dallas to Houston then take the coast (I10) the rest of the way? Isn't that longer than going from Dallas to Shreveport then down through Lousianna to Alexandria and over I10, just curious, looking for the shortest route myself as I'm dreading an 11 hour drive to Pensacola with a 7 year old in a Camaro.

been a while since i looked at the map, you gotta realize, i'm plannin for summer 2005.

yea probably goinf thru shreveportt instead.\

my dread is if you leave early you hit dallas morning rushhour right on the head, but you leave reg ( around 8) you still hit morning rush hour, im screwed either way i go, unlus i hit thru littlerock memphis down to atlanta and orlando

last time i tried to go from denton to east side of dallas took right at 2 hrs itself.

About 1300 miles for us. Since there is just the two of us, flying and driving (our own car) are similar in cost, but my husband prefers the drive to destress rather than a plane ride.

We're just south of Dallas and have made the drive twice. We go east until Jackson, Miss., then head south, picking up I-10 in Mobile. We leave home no later than 5:30am and miss most of the traffic.

We usually stop in Milton, FL on the other side of Pensacola, this year we tried to push a little father on the first day to Quincy (this side of Tallahassee) and we were pretty wiped out. Dh keeps suggested we try and drive straight through next trip. I just don't see that happening.

The first time we did this it was a lot of fun. The second time, well let's just say we couldn't get there fast enough!

Our drive is around 1000 each way. It usually takes us 17 hours straight thru. We only stop for gas and 1 meal. The kids usually get out at every gas stop for bathroom breaks and quick snacks.

We drive, we flew once, didn't like it, and so now we drive.

Its about 1000 miles from NJ to FL

We drive 958 miles from Shreveport to Orlando. And back again. You can take I-49 to Lafayette or I-20 to Jackson and down through Hattiesburg. Either way is about the same distance. It took us 14 hours to drive. We've done it in one day and split it up into two. Marianna (about 35 miles West of Tallahassee) has a bunch of hotels - Comfort, Holiday Inn Express, Microtel, plus others.

from eastern New Mexico.. on the TX border..

we have 6 kids and could never afford to fly.. this was our first trip to WDW..

and it was 1607.5 miles one way.

on our way back we did go to my moms in Missouri so it was more coming home than going there.

we went from NM to Dallas to Shreveport (spent the night there) then through Biloxi Mississippi, stayed the night in Crestview, Fl and then on into WDW..

we stopped more than most probably but we only do like 9 hours a day driving..

We drive 1000 miles each way :).

We drive our own van. It's much cheaper than flying!

952 miles from my driveway to ASMu. Normally leave about 2am on a Saturday. This is the best time to travel with the least traffic.
Except for gas and relief no stopping. Best time ever 13 hours.
I have even now gone to the point of buying one of those portable refrigerators for food.

Know the next trip is near when I make my favorite sandwiches Bacon and hard-boiled egg with mayo on a bun. Add in a bag of grapes a couple of bananas and I am ready.

I do fly occasionally but only for 4 day or less trips. Like a lot of people on DIS just waiting for Dec AP rates.

We drive from Delaware (16 hours) and love driving! We fly when we going during the school year, we drive in the summer. Straight Thru Rules. LOL

This past trip we stayed at ASSports the first night then checked into the BCV for the rest of our stay.

We have a surburban and 2 girls, each can have there own bench seat, or they sit together and watch a dvd on the laptop.

Stop often to switch places, this keeps different conversations flowing and a different view. We are only doing fast food and packed meals from now on. We decided if we are sitting then we are moving. We have had 2 meals (cracker Barrel and TGIF) that we feel were a waste of almost an hour.

Not sure of the mileage, but we drive from Atlanta to DW. It takes about 8 hours with one long stop and a couple shorter ones.

We're going in September and it should be interesting considering we're taking our 2.5 year old and our (then) 5.5 month old. I'm not at all worried about the 2.5 year old. We bought a combo TV/DVD player and he'll be fine. Problem is, the baby doesn't like being in the car and rarely falls asleep in the car. It will be a l-o-n-g trip if baby starts fussing. I think we're going to get up at 3 AM, leave by 4 and hopefully the kids will sleep at least half the trip away. We always stop for breakfast at Cracker Barrel and then load up on candy
