So what's the worst/scariest thing thats happened between you and another driver on the road?

The most recent one for me was last week, I was driving in the slow lane down the highway, and someone just pulls out in front of me. In his defense, it ended up just getting in the shoulder so he could get on the road after me (unless he just did that because I honked..), but I didn't know that, plus there was no one behind me, he could have waited. So since I really though that he was going to hit me, I honked and move into the other lane. At the next light, he was behind me, and honking at me and waving his hands. I just looked at him and looked away, not really knowing what to do. When the light turned, I got back into the slow lane to get away from him, but when I looked behind me again, there he was! This nut was following me because I honked at him! So I turned off (It really was my turn off, I wasn't just trying to get away from him), and he slammed on the brakes and started honking again, but it was to late for him to get to me, thank goodness!!!

So what's your scariest driving story???

at WDW, leaving Epcot, the car in front of me was swerving all over the lane, and I had enough of the driver, so I overtook that driver.

That driver proceeded to overtake me after that, slam on their brakes, punched through the glass in my rental car (yikes! bloody!), and spit what I believe was a mouthful of vodka in my face.

I once had a driver of an 18 wheeler follow me for about 20 miles and try to run me off the road.
VERY scary. I had my 8 month old in the backseat. This was before cell phones were prevalant.

I was on a solo motorcycle trip when some wacko kept tailing me wherever I went. I easily sped ahead of the guy, but he eventually caught up when I went back to cruise speed. I said "enough's enough", I bolted ahead of the guy and took an offramp. I had a .38 in my (locked) motorcycle hard luggage, I took it out and loaded it up just in case. No need, though, I had lost the guy for good at this point.

Another confrontation was relatively harmless but more spirited. I was stopped at a light making a right turn when the dufus behind me decided to blare his horn at me to get me to go. Since my attitude is that I'll go when it's safe, and when I'm GD good and ready, my DW and I rolled down our windows at the next light and gave him a piece of our mind. The guy, who was probably some sheltered yuppy in his SUV, surely didn't expect to get called on his horn honking in the upper middle class neighborhood we were in. And...he didn't expect to have a woman yelling at him either. He had a fit and squealed his tires as he sped away. He's lucky, do that in some other neighborhoods in San Diego and he could end up with a cap in his behind.

I had a driver make a left hand turn in front of me as I was proceeding through a green light. She was on the opposite side should have waited for me to go through and then turn, but she didn't. I had to slam on my breaks and I was honking at her. I was so mad and scared and I had to pull over to compose myself. Well, she got out of her car saying I hit her car, which I know I didn't. I get out of the car and she is in my face screaming at me. Then she pushed me, I pushed back and then it was an all out brawl in the middle of the street!(this was before kids and DH & I were dating at the time and he was with me.) He got us apart but not before she grabbed my head and bashed it on the hood of a car. I had to go to the hospital and I had a concussion! She was arrested, I had a criminal case and won. She had a record so long it was unbelievably. She got so many fines and community service. She was just a crazy person. What was even crazier was 2 years later I was watching the news and there was this couple on tv talking about how there house was robbed and I knew she looked familiar and then they showed the name and it was the crazy lady!

My ex-husband's first wife tried to run me off the road on a busy 4-lane road. She had her infant daughter in the back seat. Fortunately, a friend of mine happened to be a short distance behind me. My friend sped up and cut her off before she could hit me.

I was walking my dog in my neighborhood and this man was flying down the street in his yellow convertible. I yelled for him to slow down (we have lots of kids in the neighborhood- we live across from an elem. school).

He stopped his car, got out and came right up in my face and was yelling at me. My dog started barking and he backed off and left. I always wondered what would have happened if my dog wasn't with me.

we were crossing in the crosswalk to go into Costco with our kids when they were little. A very impatient guy came busting through in his big old SUV and just missed hitting DD

Dh smacked the back of his truck (with his hand) to let the guy know what he had done and the guy slams on his brakes and jumps out of the car.

now Dh should not have hit the car (didnt leave a mark at all) but he was really angry. The guys comes screaming at DH and our kids. I go and get in between them and give them both what for. You should have seen the other guy he was RED he was so mad and he whines "but he hit my TRUCK" I said "you almost hit my KID! Wanna bet which one matter more to me?" Dh was ready to tear the guy apart so I told them both it was time to cool down and they were making fools of themselves in front God and everybody and they needed to stop.

I grabbed my kids hands and walked away to the applause of all the women standing there watching.
Dh came along shortly the last I looked over my shoulder the guy was still standing there stammering about some lady who yelled at him.

the card checker at the door said " Lady you are my new hero" LOL

Kudos to your DH as well for coming to his family's defense. Sometimes that type of response is necessary.

I was driving home late one night, in the winter with ice on the ground, and noticed that the driver behind me was literally swerving from ditch to ditch. I called to report him as a drunk driver, and the dispatcher asked me to describe the car. I explained that he was behind me, but I would pull off the road and let him go by, and give her the info. When I pulled over, the man pulled over behind me, got out of his car, and started toward my car! I quickly got back on the road, and he pulled in behind me again, then started driving so close to me that I couldn't see his headlights anymore. I tried to turn left at the next intersection to go home, and he pulled into the oncoming lane and punched it so that if I turned I would get T-boned. This forced me to go straight down a VERY dark, lonely, curvy road. He then proceeded to play bumper cars with me all down that road. As I mentioned, it was icy. There were several times I was just sure he was going to cause me to go off the road, down an embankment into trees. I don't remember how many times he hit me. I just remember being terrified. It was just the two of us for about five miles before we got to where there were other cars. He ended up trying to pass me on a blind curve, almost caused a head-on collision, and side swiped another car to avoid it. He left the scene of that accident, and I found out later that he had gone down onto a highway that runs from Tacoma to Puyallup and hit three more cars before crashing into a cement barricade and disabling his car. He was drunk, and driving on a suspended license (suspended for DWI). They used my 911 call transcript later in court. It was 19 minutes long! That is a really really long time when someone is playing bumper cars with you on an icy road. :sad2:

I was with my jerky BF at 16/17 and yes he was driving.

Anyway someone was deliberately trying to block us from passing on a 2 lane road. So my jerk BF turns down a street and they follow us.

We pull in a random driveway...they stop and hop out of the car with huge chains and start to wail on the car to try and kill us. Our friend in the passenger side almost gets whacked as the window breaks.:scared1:

BF floors it and we are outta there. My parents still do not believe that happened to this day.

So what's your scariest driving story???

Mine is actually very similar to yours. I was driving north on the GSP to go to work one morning. I was in the right lane and unfortunately when I got to one of the entrance ramps, there was a car next to me in the middle lane so I couldn't move over. For some reason people think the entrance ramp entitles them to freely join into traffic even if there are cars currently in the lane.

This guy almost hit me, but he braked at the last minute. He followed behind me for over 10 miles, right on my tail. I tried switching lanes, he switched. I tapped my breaks, he stayed right behind me. I was really scared. Luckily this was the time that the GSP still had tollbooths on my way to work and I somehow lost him at one of the lanes.

One morning on my way to work, this jerk was riding my tail. I was coming up to a school speed zone, so I slowed down to that speed and was watching out for kids, and a cat runs out in the road. So not thinking about the guy on my tail end, I slam the breaks to avoid hitting the cat. Which of course means the guy behind me has to swerve out into the turn lane to avoid hitting the back end of my car. He's honking and flipping me the bird and cussing up a blue streak. Then he proceeds to pass me! Now, we're on a road that has two lanes and a wide center lane used for turning. So he's passing me in the turn lane and in a school zone where there's kids everywhere. As soon as he gets around me, he nicely slams on his breaks. I'm assuming to "get back at me" for hitting my breaks in front of him.
That's the scariest situation I've been in. I was so scared he was going to hit a child or another car. I keep a lookout for that same car every morning and if I see it, I let them turn in front of me!

I try very, very hard to avoid any kind of confrontation with drivers these days.. Too many nuts out there that may be packing or be loony enough to use their vehicle as a weapon..

Had the same confrontation with a CAB DRIVER behind me! Can you believe it?? I picked up my cell phone and reported his cab number immediately, then followed up with an email complaint upon my arrival home. I'm with you. I'll turn right when I am good and ready and SURE it's safe! ;)

My mom and I were driving back to Ohio from Disney this past January and somewhere around North or South Carolina we were harassed by a truck driver. It was pouring and nighttime, and out of nowhere this semi cuts us off. We shrugged it off and figured he just wasn't paying attention. At that time we were passing through a busy stretch of road, and then suddenly it was just us two. He started passing us, getting in front of us, then slamming on his brakes which was so dangerous since it was pouring. Then he turns on these bright white lights on the back of his trailer that blinded us and nearly ran us off the road (I assume the lights are used to see what's behind them when they're backing up). He did the slamming and the flashing of the bright white lights a few times more and then we decided to call 911. We got closer to get his license plate number and when he realized we were trying to report him, he sped away doing at least 80mph. Still don't know why he did it, my mom doesn't recall ever accidentally cutting him off or anything.

I was 17 with mine. I started one day on my way to school, i'll admit I was speeding and i passed a couple cars. A red light comes and I stop there and an SUV pulls up next to me with a dad and a roughly 9 yr old boy. The dad rolls down his window and i cursing a storm at me and then follows me real close honking his horn and I can see him screaming in my rear view.

That wasn't the end of it though! I left for school and took the same route pretty much every day. Over the next two weeks he found me on the road 2 more times and each would pull up nest to my car swearing like a sailor and honking at me. I had a friend with me one time and he swerved his car so close to mine that we could have reached out the window and touched his car. I'll admit the first time I was speeding, but the next two times I was being perfectly good.

Changed my route after that.

This is embarassing because it's sooooooo not like me, but a few years ago I was at the mall and we were in a hurry for some reason. It was really busy and I finally found a spot. I waited for the guy to back out and I was pulling in a woman in a little red sports car pulled in from the other way (I had been waiting, she just sped in there). I was REALLY crabby and I gave her the finger lol. I have never done that in my entire life, I'm not sure what came over me. ANd DS was in the car too (bad mom).

So, I pull into the next row and a spot opened up. I was hesitant to take it because the lady in the red car was right there, but I pulled in. As we were getting out of the car DS ( I think he was 7 at the time), saod "Uh Oh! You shouldn't have done that mom, that's no lady, it's a man in a dress!" :rotfl:

I don't think it was, it was just a really tall woman with an angular face, but DS was scared of her. I explained to DS what I did was wrong lol. Of course when we got out I realized she worked in the store I was going to (saw her name tag). Luckily it was a big department store and we didn't run into her.

Last summer I was riding with my brother and SIL when a pickup started tailgating dangerously close to us. That's one of my brother's biggest pet peeves so he break checked the truck hoping he'd back off. Instead it just ticked off the the other driver even more and he pulled along next to us, even though there's no passing on that street. While he was next to us he juked over almost running us off the road so my brother hit the breaks and let the guy go by. By that time we had come to a 90 degree curve in the road and the guy decided to stop on the curve to block us. Then he put his truck in reverse and threatened to back into us, but my brother backed up and put plenty of room between the vehicles. The whole time we were stopped I just kept saying "Don't get out of the car. Don't get out of the car." I was worried the guy might have a weapon. Finally after what seemed like forever the guy peeled out and took off. My brother was fuming because his wife and sister were just put in danger by this jerk-wad so he took off and we caught up to the guy in a Taco Bell parking lot. After getting his tags my brother called the cops and we waited for them to come in a near by parking lot where we could keep an eye on the truck.

The police came and talked to him and to us and they found out that he had his wife and baby in the truck. He was having a really bad fight with his wife and was so mad that he decided to take it out on us. On a funny side note one of the officers mentioned to us that the man almost got out of his truck to confront my brother and the officer told him that he should thank his lucky stars he never did. Apparently the guy was little and my brother is 6'5" and weighs 260 lbs.
